Tearing Body Mount
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:32:23 AM »
I have a 1.25" body lift that are poly replacement bushings. I flopped last spring and pulled out 1 mid body mount and compressed another in the middle body mounts on both sides. So when I added my rocker skids I removed the rear 2 and added a single as far back as possible for better trail clearance. I would hit the frame body mounts on the trails. The floor channel which the body mounts bolts to is what the rocker skid is bolted.

I bought the TJ in 05 and it came from OH stock. The frame has lots of rust flakes inside. The suspension bolts were mostly rust-welded. There is some rust through on the rocker under the doors and couple of rusting areas as well.
Here is what I did.

The rocker is secured to the rear most body mount and floor channel. The floor channel is what the original body mounts bolted to. The other 3 bolts there also mount the channel to the rocker skid. The rocker skid is secured to the rocker with 5 bolts.
While wheeling this weekend, I had some rubbing of the steering shaft from my air compressor mount plate. Come to find this - front driver's mid body mount (under your feet).

It is suppose to look like this.

I can't add another rocker skid mount to the floor, but thinking to extend the rocker to the body mount or bring the body mount out to the rocker.

It looks like extending the rocker to the body mount would be better.  If the body mount extends too far out, it will tend to get hit more.

Classic damage due to running a body lift. I had the same issues with a 1" lift.
It took me the better part of a couple days to fix it. Had to weld the cracks, patch in
some material,, then add a LARGE heavy washer over the top and weld it to
reinforce it as well as make a nice clean flat surface for the stock mount to sit on.
I also had to make a jig to pull the surfaces square once they were welded.
Used a piece of channel and a bolt and nut to pull the mount flush after welding.

Likely all the mounts are broken.... Mine were except for the two at the back
of the chassis under the tailgate and the front center one.
