Another axle from an 89 Wrangler.
If you want an upgrade for a little cost, determine your axle ratio, then look for a 8.25 from a XJ with the same gear ratio. You will want an 8.25 axle from a 94 or newer XJ as they have a higher spline count. If you want a slightly better axle and probably little more work to get installed (nothing to difficult), then look for a 8.8 from an 95 or newer Explorer/Mountaineer.
You want the same gear ratio to match the front axle to keep it 4wd capable. You will want to keep the same lug pattern and size to use the same wheels you have now. Without swapping in another exact rear axle from another Wrangler, you will need to do some welding. Welding of the leaf spring perch and shock mounts. Depending what axle as well, ie. 8.8, you will need to do some brake line and parking brake line work and add a flange to the rear ds to mate to the flanged pinion on the 8.8.
If you need to search, check you local 4wd club websites and your local craigslist. Also look at local 4wd shops. Taking out a YJ axle and swapping something better in is what they do.
