Hey guys...i got a weird thing goin on with the jeep. went off roading the other night for a while-mud, sand/dirt didnt romp on her too much..drove the 1hr out of LI to campus w/o a problem..then i turned off the highway and as i drove down the street to campus check guage light went on an voltmeter dropped to zero. Made it to campus left it overnight went back the next day and fired her up...no problems...drove down the street and the same thing voltmeter to zero check guage and engine light.
i figured alternator. but i wanted to make sure it wasnt a wire loose or anything so i wiggled around-disconnected battery cleaned off the batt leads. went to start her and this time....the engine would rev up to 2k and hold while the voltmeter would drop to zero within 35 sec. she always started..but the voltage would drop.
so i changed the alternator...voltage holds however she now starts and revs up to 2k in park and neutral but levels off at 1800rpm. drive, 1st 2nd and reverse the rpms hold at 1k (still kinda high if ur at a full stop) and the weirdest thing yet...while drivin on the highway she consistantly revs up and down..... what is goin on???!!!
i appreciate any input...unfortunately im shipping out for 65 days...ship leavs tomorrow morn so any input ill check back when i return.
