New to the list, but I've been treated like a red-headed 4cyl stepchild at the bigger forums, so I feel like I'm home! :)
I have (2) 2.5L Jeeps, an 87 Comanche and a 95 YJ.
The 2.5L on the 87 MJ is tired at 180K miles. I can spin the crank by hand, it uses all kinds of oil, ashing up my plugs, and the blow by. But it starts and runs reliably! The exhaust manifold just cracked, and I used it as an excuse to buy a Clifford header. Looking at the job ahead, I was thinking of just pulling the motor and having it rebuilt. Here's what I was thinking of doing:
bored .030 over with larger pistons
mopar performance cam
ported head
plus the header and my conical air intake.
With these mods, the question is what else can I do?
With the TBI, can you swap in a 4.0 TB? I'm hearing 'no.'
Can I modify my existing TB and injectors to complement the other upgrades?
Should I upgrade the trans? The AX-5 shifts fine, even has a new clutch.
Any of your experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!
