89 YJ starts then dies?
« on: January 22, 2010, 03:31:32 PM »
I sold my 89 YJ 4banger to a friend who is now having problems, it starts but just dies, it won't stay running, does anyone have possible cause's or fixes? I suspect it's a fuel problem and we'll try changing the fuel filter this weekend. I would like to do some fuel pump tests but don't have any info on the 89 TBI fuel system. Does anyone know what the fuel pressure should be?

tbi needs 14.5 psi at the injector (according to pdf manual) i think the pump is supposed to supply around 17psi.. this pdf has most testing procedures and good amount of info about the tbi system...

Is it erratic idling before it dies or does it idle fine and just shut off?  Does it increase in RPM, goes from let's say 1000 RPM to 3,000 RPM, when you start it then dies?  Is it automatic or manual transmission?
