My 8.8 E-brake solution
« on: June 23, 2010, 11:54:29 AM »
I'm going to start by saying I'm not taking credit for this, as I'm sure somebody else has done this before.
When I first swapped in my disc brake 8.8, I was using the YJ e-brake cables with trimmed springs and wrapping the cable end around the actuator on the 8.8. It worked okay, but I couldn't get the Jeep to not roll on any kind on incline.
I pulled the YJ inner cables out of the sleeve after cutting off the leaded ends. These are on the frame side where the brake is adjusted.

I then slid the 8.8 inner cables into the YJ sleeves, after cutting off the ends.

I attached the ebrake ends to the 8.8.

The YJ sleeve end "tabs" can be trimmed to retain the sleeve if you like. I left them as is, and haven't had a problem.
Here is the 8.8 end. You can see the fingers/tabs are shorter.

Here are the longer YJ tabs not "grabbing" the 8.8 casting.

I then modified a set of carburetor cable stops by drilling them out to fit the inner cable.

I locked those down good and tight with the YJ adjuster backed all the way out. I trimmed the inner cables a bit, adjusted it, and it works great!
I can't get the Jeep to move w/the e-brake on now!

Looks good.  It also allows you to adjust each side individually.  On mine (Dana 44) I have one side that works and one that doesn't, so something like this could help.

'95 YJ, 33 x 12.5 mud tires, RE 4.5 ED lift, Atlas 4 speed, rear D44, ARBs front and rear, 4.56 gears, 8000# winch

that's great. I ended up buying the Teraflex YJ cables for this  purpose but this is def cheaper - wish I knew about this a month ago, thanks for the writeup.
