Gear Oil

I'm sorry for being so stupid but will i be ok if i use 80w-90 oil in my transmission instead of 75w-90? and all i need to do to change oil in my manual trans is pull the bottom plug, drain it, and then fill till the oil levels equal with the top plug right?

Yep, but I really recommend a synthetic, the AX series has small bearings and need all the protection you can give....

it's a 2000 wrangler se, it has an ax5 transmission I'm almost sure.

this tranny has 75000 miles on it and a noisy syncro and i'm going to replace the lube in it cheaply with the OEM recommended stuff until work pans out and i can by the nice stuff lol

Use an oil listed here. Regular gear oil, (GL 5) will eat your syncro's.

Good point! make sure its the right GL #!

The noisy synchro is often the symptom that straight GL5 has been in there,
or that the needle bearings in that cluster are getting tired.

Avoid speed shifting the AX5 at all cost it does not like it....

Redline MT90 if you want to quiet the tranny and make the synchros last.  It's a good investment.
