he already bought the engine and transmission http://4bangerjp.com/forums/index.php/topic,8146.msg64713.html#msg64713

at this point the cheapest and fastest way to go is to mate the XJ harness he has to his YJ and hope it fires up.

or imo better get a YJ 91-95 full harness, PCM, intake manifold with throttle body and some of the engine accessories (distributor, flywheel if it's different and the PCM coolant temp sensor)

+1 but for fastest way I would op for xj harness mate to the yj and hope it fires sourcing the rest in 4 days may be tough and costly when you already have the xj renix stuff my buddy has a renix retro in his yj but he bough it like that.

Whether you have smog inspection or not your building a orphan..

Its federally illegal to do a 88 in a 1991 because your changing
the emissions the wrong direction.

Any body who has ever been jacked up by the smog police wont touch it,
should you ever want to sell, and if someone buys it and does not know it
or even if they do a subsequent buyer could come after you if he fails smog.

Happened to me a couple years ago... Cost me weeks and I had to pay to put it right...
Guy who bought it from me (As a parts truck) sold it to someone else, they lived in a
inspection area. I even had a as-is bill of sale, but I got nailed because the buyer
"did not speak english" so "did not understand the paperwork". It was an assembled truck 79
GMC cab and Bed on a 1981 frame. (I did not know the frame was a 1981 thought
it matched the truck)... Arg.. So Washington identified it as a 1981 instead of a 1979 and changed
the title....

From then on it was a death spiral the buyer took me to court and won even though
I bought the truck running from someone else that guy and his brother claimed
I bought he parts un-assembled....

We are trying to mate the harness now.  It is a brand new engine so I can going to put a cat on there to see if it even puffs anything.  I do still have all the emissions stuff off of the XJ to put on.

if you have the original harness there's not that much work to get it going, just hook up the engine side harness and jump the wires that go in the cab (there should be about 4 wires that need to be connected, +12 switched, ignition, crank and maybe a ground or 2) - you can even connect them straight to the battery to start it. At this point you shouldn't care much for the gauges, you can get a set of mechanical ones for something like $20 with a mounting pod (oil pressure, water temperature and voltage) - just to get it moving. I hate to say it but we did warn you to get a YJ engine or at least the full YJ harness to make your life easier.

Don't give up now, you're really close - it's really not that big of a deal. I don't have a manual for the XJ renix otherwise i would have looked to tell you what wires to connect where but i think you do so map out what needs to be connected at a minimum.

Well he. mounted the frame an inch off. Now I have to remove engine etc to.remoubt it. Think I will look for a 92+ engine and get frame so I don't have to cut. Guess a learning. Esp.

when you say you get a 92+ engine so you don't cut the frame - aren't the blocks the same, maybe you just need the motor mounts off a 92+

or you could modify the ones you have, 1'' is not that much really, you should have enough room to leave it like that, where does it hit? (or why can't you make it work?)

Are you missing the spacer in the motor mount on the passenger side? There is a secondary bit in there...
It looks right without it but it does not work....

It's an inch to far back. The shifted hitting. Thinking of just selling this engine and get a 5.0 if it will mate somehow to a ax15 with an adapter

New question.  If I was to get a computer, wireharness, fuse block, injectors, etc... out of a 90 4.0 will it mount up to the 88 that I already have?

YOu need the intake manifold and exhaust manifold to mount the injectors and the O2...?

Thinking...
