2.5 renix question
« on: February 23, 2011, 12:48:31 AM »
I just picked up an 89 wrangler islander with the 2.5. Can anybody tell me if a 4.0 renix throttle body will work on this? Also I have been looking for a replacement 2.5 renix throttle body so I can try to get it bored out. Found 2 different part numbers- 8700 and 8894. Anybody know what the difference is? Would love to change this over to mpfi but dont know if that would be worth it. Really dont want to get into a motor swap. The jeep is in pretty awesome shape for an 89, would just like to get it running a little better. Does run decent now, a little rough on idle and way poochy on highway after about 60 (I can deal with that since not DD). Just got it a couple weeks ago and haven't had chance to really do anything with it yet, just looking for ideas for now.

the renix 4l tb wont work because its an mpfi system... sharpxman has/ had a bored out tbi that hasn't been tested yet. the 2 part numbers probably correspond the the tbi for the xj and yj. the yj has 4 vacuum ports on the tb where the xj only has 2.

i don't think so, but if you feel like experimenting you can have the one i made for cheap (with a matching throttle body spacer) and if you don't like it you can ship it back and I'll send you a refund. I didn't find anyone to test it yet so can't tell you if and how it would work.

@chadrc: how many bolts are on your t/b to the manifold? 3 or 4?

4 holes from manifold to tbi (4 studs with nuts to secure). the 3 hole side goes to the upper half of the throttle body that his the fuel injector and what not.

really that's odd, all the ones I've seen on ebay or in pics are 4 bolts to manifold wonder if the Cherokee went weird and went 3 bolts since we already know Cherokees had different vacuum stuff... but he said he has a wrangler.... odd

apparently cherokee has 2 vac port, wrangler has 4 on the t/b - the one i have has 4, 2 of them are a bit thicker.

anyway, let me know if you want to play/experiment with it, i can ship it over to you and if you want to keep it I'll take whatever you want to spend on it.
