Found my coolant smell
« on: May 29, 2011, 05:52:35 PM »
Its coming out of the weep hole on the water pump. I'm gonna swap it out tomorrow and had a couple questions.  My buddy has a 2.5 yj and he's telling me I need a puller to get the wp pulley off, I don't see why but is it true?  Also, what is the capacity of the cooling system?  I'm not sure if ill buy the premix coolant or just mix it myself but how much should I get?

Thanks guys,

Joey

No puller need that I remember.  Buy New not rebuilt  to much trouble to change out again real soon.  I just use 1 Gal of the unmixed and add water from there.

buy premix or like he ^ said mix your own with water but make sure you use distilled water (buy that too).

How many jugs of the premix do I need?

8.5 liters / 9 qts.

make sure you drain the radiator as well (1/2 will stay in it otherwise).

and x2 on buying a new pump rather than reman, i did that before and installed 3 of them in 1 day (1 was leaking and 1 was noisy).

Alright, thanks for taking the time to help me out.  Got the new pump bolted on so I can take that of the list.  Next up I'm gonna tackle my loud lifter.

At advance auto parts a new water pump is $6 more than a rebuilt one.  It was $34 for the pump and about $15 for the coolant.  Cheaper than I thought it was going to be.

Sure its a lifter, not an exhaust leak. Finalluy trtaced my lifter to the back Exhaust bolt that is missing. :brick:

i stuck a piece of wood all over the engine and up to my ear and its coming from under the valve cover.  It stops instantly once the oil finally pumps it up after about 2-3 minutes of running.  Haha, I do have an exhaust leak somewhere else.  Just Empty Every Pocket right?   ;)
