i did this swap a few months back and researched many forums as to what seal needs to be used. i tried the national 471763 and ruined prob three seals trying to get it seated next to the carrier. the proper seal for my 95 yj was napa part #11800. bought one of these and installed it with no issues. been running my tj shaft without any leaks for months now. you only need this seal near the carrier. you no longer need the one outsde the disco housing. that one was there to lubricate the shift fork and collar which you no longer have. just get the new seal seated squarely and make sure the seal is in the right spot so that it will be riding on the machined portion of the new axle shaft and you should be good to go. if i can be of any more help please let me know

You might end up with water pooling in you disconnect housing.  AFAIK the national 471763 is supposed to be placed at the disconnect housing, not at the diff.

From reading a bunch of write-ups it seems like not all D30 are the same.  Some have a place for a seal at the diff, others don't, and several part numbers are mentioned as working in specific axles.

very true i never thought about water pooling in that void. my main reason for not installing a seal at the disco housing is that i would not be able to tell if the carrier seal was leaking. it that seal leaks now i would see it at the end of the axle tube. if i had a seal outside the disco it would hide this and poss allow my fluid level to drop enough to damage my carrier without knowing. if you could get a seal that sits ouside the disco that would keep the fluid in that would be all you need but i think that the tj shaft would tear it up since it is not machined at that point for a seal. the national 471763 and chicago rawhide 11343 are interchangeable and i tried both. im pretty sure they are meant to be put near the carrier but i didnt have any luck with them. they are very close in size to the napa 11800 i used successfully. the area outside the disco takes a significantly larger outer diameter seal.

there is an Alloy USA disconnect eliminator kit that comes with seals and a block-off plate (no axle shaft). From what i remember in the instructions they had only the outer seal installed when using a 1 piece shaft, but that was with their replacement 1 piece axle, if using a TJ shaft the story is probably different.
