NSG370 in a 98 2.5

I have a NSG370  from an 2.4 06 TJ and I would like to swap it into my 98 2.5 . I have googled it , and searched around , and can find a few 6cyl swaps , but no 4 banger ones . So why not ask the 4 cyl experts !
Anyone here done this swap ? researched it ? have a link ? details on how / what to do to make it work ? or first hand experiance ? ( which is always best )

I read your build , nice adapter , but I have the 2.4 version , from what I have read has the same bolt pattern as the 2.5 . I know I can reuse the clutch / fly wheel , but wanted to check about the starter and CPS as well as the Trans mount ( your not this far yet ? )

Well if the 6 speed for the 2.4L doesn't work for ya I'll trade you one out of a Rubicon. The 6 cyl engines have the starter on the other side of the engine compared to a 2.4l engine. Both engines with the 6 speed have the crank sensor in a different spot in the bellhousing. To be honest I have no idea if the bolt pattern of the 2.4L and the 2.5L is the same or not. Looking at Sharp's template the 2.5L has the starter on the RH side also. Where as the 2.4L has the starter on the left right under the clutch slave cylinder. I would love to bolt a 6 speed in my big Jeep since the gearing spread is so much better. Lower first gear and 2nd is closer to first so makes it easier to get good wheel speed in 2 nd in low range to bump up ledges.
If all else fails I'll end up swapping transmissions with my 2006 TJ

I am in canada  :fish: so no trades
And where is the CPS on the 2.4 ? and where does the starter bolt up ? I have no experiance with the 6 spd

for the mount you can read my other thread in Member's projects called "sharpxmen - Drivetrain upgrades", i have installed an NV3550 and i have pictures in there for what to do, the NV3550 has the same mount pattern and location as the NSG370, you can reuse the 2.5L mount by cutting the holes open at the ends (the 4.0 has 4 mounting holes that are just a bit further apart than the 2 holes on the AX5).

I didn't get to the crank sensor yet, it's just a matter of cutting an opening in the NSG370 bellhousing and fabbing 2 mounting studs, one would have to go onto the adapter and the other one on the lip of the transmission from what i can tell so far, i didn't get to do that yet but i don't see an issue.

the starter on the 2.5L is in the same place as the 4.0L, luckily it is bolted to the engine block and not to the transmission, so you don't have to worry about that at all other than fabbing an inspection plate (i got the one that came with the NSG and just going to cut it in 1/2 as it originally goes behind the flywheel on the 4.0
