Topic: strange clutch problem

I bled my clutch over the weekend because occasionaly in the morning the pedal would go to the floor, a few pumps and it was ok, and even once in a while while driving I'd have to double clutch it. So I bled it and it felt more solid but then this morning it went right to the floor again, after a pump or two it's fine and still feels solid. Should I be considering something else besides air in the line of my 91yj 2.5L?

On another note, I think I have a bad wire going to my temp sender for my gauge, if I wiggle the wire it will work for a day or so and then stop again. Anyone know where I could get a plug for it so I could run some new wire? I wanna do an electric fan upgrade but can't until I have a gauge that works to monitor my temps. Thanks!

Make sure your line is in good shape.  If it's rusted, it could have a tiny hole and cause a problem like that.  I've had the same problem with one of my brake line's on my '89 Probe.

Also, check to see if your line is good and tight.

If it's a 91, you have an internal slave right? Any possibility it's leaking inside the bellhousing where you can't see it? Also could be the o-rings inside the master cylinder calling it quits, but I'd would suspect a leak somewhere first if you have had to bleed it more than once.

Oh yeah, I had a similar problem on a 94YJ with the temp sender. It eventually just quit working altogether when I wiggled it one day and the entire plastic portion of the sender broke off in my hand  Try a new one, they are pretty inexpensive from what I remember

Yeah, I have a similar problem with my 94.  Its some kind of ultra slow leak or something.  Every once in a while I will start the Jeep and the clutch pedal will go to the floor.  I pop the hood, top off the clutch cylinder fluid resevoir and the problem basically disappears for a week to a month or longer.  Not one of these things that I need to fix immediately, but if I ever do an extended outdoors expedition away from civilization, it probably wouldn't hurt for me to have the line checked and or replaced.

Over the next 75k miles or so, I will probably change the clutch to one of the upgraded versions.  When I first got the Jeep,  I was skipping first gear and just pulling away in second gear (probably too much), which did a little wear on the disc. Not a real problem now, but again, something to work on later.

I'm going to try and bleed it again tonight, I hope it's just that I did a sucky job bleeding it the first time because I don't wanna have to pull the tranny just to check the internal slave and throw out bearing. How expensive are master cylinders and are there any tricks I would need to know before changing it? The jeep does have 135k on it and it did sit for almost two years before I rescued it so it would make sense that the seals might be going. Funny thing is, it did n't do it right away, it was a month or so after I topped off all the fluids that it started up. thanks!
