some problems with my engine and need your opinion
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:00:44 PM »
My Jeep has been driving like it has no power. I had the computer read and it turned out that the crankshaft position sensor is faulty. How does that affect my engine and could it be the reason it has no power?

it's used for your ignition advance, rpm reading and injector duty cycle so it will affect the way it runs and of course cause loss of power.

Before the change the car got read again, but the error did not occur. The sensor got changed either way, and I think I find a little change but dont know :/

so what's your question this time?

the answer stands for your initial question:
My Jeep has been driving like it has no power. I had the computer read and it turned out that the crankshaft position sensor is faulty. How does that affect my engine and could it be the reason it has no power?
with a faulty CPS you will experience loss of power, run badly or engine stall/not start.

if you weren't sure about the cps being faulty then you should have waited after resetting the computer to see if the CEL comes back, the code could have been for example from you playing with it and disconnecting it to see what happens (the engine probably stopped) so if you did that and forget to reset the computer afterwards the code was most likely caused by that experiment (the CEL would go away but the code will remain stored until reset). Otherwise it's better that you changed it to avoid getting stuck out in the woods (won't start if it goes bad completely). Anyway, next time you should phrase you question more clearly and state if the CEL is on or not, i can't guess what you have in mind.

maybe you have some other issues if you still feel your engine is not running right.
