Ok, so put a Stage II Jetchip in the squirrel cage a couple of weeks ago.
Drove it from San Diego, CA to Sedona, AZ (that was a stupid idea, but fun once we got there). Seemed to run much better, more power, etc. Pretty happy. Mileage sucked, but, since we drove a zillion miles sideways, at night, with almost zero visibilty from blowing sand from a two-state windstorm, probably had a bad effect, so... try again.
Well over the weekend we did a day long run at Ocotillo Wells and points south. Did some hill climbs in deep sand, crawled over some rocks, drove Oriflamme Canyon trail from the desert floor to 4200'. It was awesome. What a difference. Had no problem on hills that it had to seriously work up before. Went up Diablo Dropoff in 2nd gear (man was the Rubicon owner suprprised when he found out it was a 4-banger, ha, showed up his $35,000 store bought toy).
Mileage was actually better than it was before, but the power and torque difference was well worth the price. Next week it's getting 4:88's and 33's just after that, it'll be fun to put it up against my 4.0 Sport.
Oh, one more thing, the revlimiter has shifted down to just barely over 5k, not a problem, it cut in and out quickly and didn't lose it (I was up a hill in three feet of sand and ran it up pretty high at one point digging out and up), but I thought it was interesting.
Get one, it's worth it
I'm using 89 octane pump gas, has no problem with the cheap stuff and runs great. Next run I may try the waaay overpriced stuff, but very happy with 89.
And why is gas 2.59 in San Diego and 2.17 in the middle of nowhere in Arizona and 1.89 at my buddies back on the other coast all on the same weekend? OK, rant over...
