If the splines are all lined up it shouldn't be to hard. Just shimmy the tranny clockwise/counterclockwise until it slides into place I didn't have my transfercase on, so i just benched the tranny up into place and shimied it with my arms and pushed with my legs. Once it slid into place, i just put in a couple of the bolts and started to slowly torque them down going opposite sides back and forth until it was all tight. I had no problems. It was definately easier then the FWD cars i had done clutches on previous to the jeep, a lot more room to work haha.

What helps is to get to long bolts that fit through the bellhousing and have the same thread as the bellhousing bolts cut the heads of makes aligning a lot easier sounds like it does not want to go into the pilot bearing.
As long as the transmission input shaft is in the splines of the clutch plate it should slide in if aligned. If you do it right its not that hard to get the engine to slip in. put a ratchet on the dampner bolt and turn the engine while pushing it in to see if it engages the splines once it does you should be able to wigle the engine in place without to much effort.

re-align your friction disc with your pilot bearing to get it centered or it will never stab. Re: use your alignment tool, or you got the wrong parts

i also would recheck you're alignment again.  most of the time it is the alignment or just the tight clearance into the pilot bearing that holds you up.  do not pull tranny in with bolts,  if it is not loned up the bell will break.  do not push clutch while installing.  yes if you are close enough it may help but you also run the risk of blowing out you slace cylinder and also there is a clip on you transfer arm the holds it in and if you are too far away the arm will over extend and snap that clip.  then you have to order one because nobody carries them.  just letting you know i have done tons of them and although these ideas are good in theory i have all of them go bad a cost a lot of money.  just get in there and rock it back and forth and it will eventually slide in.  also if you see one side is closer than the other to meeting up then adjust the clutch assembly just a little toward that side.  i just had a nv3500 tranny give me a hell of a time yesterday and all it was, was the alignment was a hair off.  it doesn't take much. good luck

I took the slave cylinder off  and my Buddy laid on the floor and rocked the motor back and forth until the gap was only about 1/4 and then I hand tightened the bolts and pulled it together.
