Topic: Went and played in the river today with the Jeeps..

Me and a buddy took our Jeeps down to the river for a little while today for some fun.  I didnt get any pics of my TJ, but Here are a few I snapped of My friends YJ.

Waterproof?  Haha, whats that mean?     We have done nothing so far, I realized that the distributors are obviously waterproof after burrying my jeep the second day I had it up to the headlights, it sat there for over 2 hours running before I was able to get it out.  They dont need much other than maybe a snorkal if you want to go deeper, we were pushing it today, but it was a lot of fun!

You need to check the axle/transmission/transfer case vent lines. If any get submerged, or if any leak at all, you most likely have water in them. You won't notice at first, but it will be very expensive later. Check the fluids, if there brown or milky, change it pronto

Water is fun and so is mud but can cause a lot of grief if you do not keep up on maintenance wheel cylinder and calipers can seize water in the axles and transfer case well if the vent hoses are good you should be ok but this included pic is something you might want to look out for. If you look at this pic you can see how the cv joint on the front shaft seized up to either being dry from the factory or water and dirt got in there, then got hot and seized it up. It disintegrated the transfercase, tore the floorboard up, yanked the brake and fuel lines out. tore the wiring harness up destroyed the modules and solenoids for the lockers. On a older tj it would be a total loss vehicle. This happened to a 2003 Rubicon and he had to fight hard to get it fixed under waranty 2 months later its still not working quite right. Remeber playing is fun but proper maintenance is important too when you get a bit wild off road

Oh yeah, I know all about changing your fluids, although even after several deep water crossings I have yet to find any sign of water other than a few droplets in the front axle.  Transfer case, tranny and rear axle are always good.  We do take good care of the toys, and we are fully aware of the affects this kind of wheeling can have, but I dont really care its all fun!
