for my first post id like to tell everyone what im doing with my tax return-> going bigger. i currently have the smallest jeep known to south Florida and i feel its time to upgrade a bit. i read alot of posts bashing 4cycl with larger wheels and tires but i gotta ask how rough could it be? i dont do anything offroad at all, and this terrain is extremely flat. i feel if my bone stock jeep can handle 4 full grown passengers it should fare pretty good with larger tires. and as it stands even on the occasional trip back to central Florida i never go above 65 for any reason. some im thinking lift it around 3inchs go to 33/12.5/15 and do all the little handy power mods(efan/ throttle body) and should be cool around town.
heres the beast
any input would be good
Alixxila,
Where in South FL are you? I am in Miami, and by the way, there are TONS of stock Jeeps around, so yours cannot be the smalles!!! LOL!
Anyway, I run 31" on the 4-banger, and I do feel a bit underpowered when hitting the highway. If you drive against the wind (and you know how winds can get down here!), you will not be able to maintain speed in 5th even with all the mods you mentioned (I have a 62mm bored out 4.0L TB and the E-Fan, and some other stuff), but without a strong wind, you will be able to cruise at 70mph on 5th. If I were to go to 33s (which I will), I would regear to 4.88 to get back power.
But keep in mind that accelarating is not the only issue; there is a BIG difference STOPING 33s... So make sure your breakes are up to par!
