I'm planning on buying a new front winch bumper.  I was wondering if anyone has one of these...http://www.gothereengineering.com/products/fullbrush.htm  or knows anyone who has one, they seem to be a new company.  Judging by the pictures it mounts on top of the frame and leaves the frame ends exposed.  Are there any steering box skids that can mount without attaching to the bumper?

That thing really does mount high.  On the plus side if a cow wanders into the road, you're covered

Yeah...why so expensive??  I think mine was half of that...but I don't have all of those fancy tubes all over the front of mine.

Because Rubicon owners seem to be willing to pay any amount of money for parts.

Yes, basically all the individual steering box protectors that I've seen don't attach to any bumpers. They attach through the use of stock bolts and 1 that you drill into the round crossmember. That bolt is a self tapping bolt. Supposedly, if you use a torsion style sway bar that bolt still clears. The other mounting points are the steering box bolts and the lower side bumper bolt in the frame.

Now, there may be some out there that a bumper mfr will add to his bumper design as an additional item, but then it will only work on that bumper.

 I think that bumper was designed for Jeeps that run cold. . . so by blocking all air flow to the radiator the engine will warm up    
I'm thinking that i wouldn't want my winch that high on the body.

Not much choice on a TJ because of the frame crossmember...unless the bumper sits out further....

Actually, if you notice in the http://www.gothereengineering.com/products/fullbrush.htm picture, the winch is mounted at normal height and it is just the bumper "wings" that are up high.

X2!  Save your money get a Warn bumper.  As for the sterring box skid.  I know for sure that the Warn skid doesn't need a bumper to mount on a TJ.  Its pretty easy you use two stock bolts and drill one into the round tube between the main frame (just bought one at amazon, free shipping and a great price).

Thanks for the input,  I was also looking at Warn and Rokmen.  I like having the extra protection,  alot of deer around here...I've hit two already in life with other cars.  I mostly wheel small overgrown trails in forest preserves around here,  so I am into the whole brush guard.
