Topic: brake incident

While wheeling a few days ago, the jeep was at an extreme angle and the engine was about to stall.  When I pressed on the brake pedal it went to the floor with no resistance, I let it out and pressed again and it went down most of the way but I think there was some resistance just before the floor.  I shut off the engine and restarted and everything was fine for the rest of the trip and it was also fine the next day around town.  There was no fluid loss, the reservoir is still full.  Any ideas?

Sounds like the check valve in the booster is going bad.

Would you recommend changing only the booster or the master cylinder and booster together?  Thanks

Should be able to just replace the booster.

Iīm trying to understand this.  I more or less recall that the jeep did not move despite what happened to it seems the booster was keeping the brakes applied even with the foot off the pedal.  So then pressing it again was just pushing against the return spring with no additional fluid pumping.  Does this sound about right?  Thanks

My sisters Jeep did something simular and we changed the booster and it fixed it.

Yes, and it appears that you can buy it seperately for less than $10

Just an update.  I took it to a brake shop owned by an uncle of my wife.  I trust this shop because they know the owner's niece could die if they do bad work!  They found that the master cylinder cups were leaking internally a bit.  It was replaced and seems to be working fine.  I'll try to test it at extreme angles ASAP.
