Odd ball speedo gear question...
« on: July 02, 2008, 08:25:32 PM »
I got my spiffy new Wild Horses output shaft for my Dana 20 today! The speedo "plug" on it has a cable set up with a gear that has a long shaft on it with a smaller gear. The stock YJ one has a short shaft with a larger gear. My question is, do they make the long shaft speedo with the smaller gear with a more common tooth count?

It would be ultra-freaking simple if that were the case...

Well, Advanced Adapters is truly a wealth of information. I have one coming from the dealership. I found out that Tera-Flush sells their own. They wanted $42 for them (at a local 4X shop) as opposed to the $20 from the dealership.  :fitz:

My speedo will be close. According to the speedo gear calculators on line, I need a 41 tooth gear. The best that I can find that will work in my application is a 38 tooth gear. Close enough for government work...

That's pretty far off when it comes to speedo gears.  There are long and short speedo gears, both should be available with 41t.  My go-to folks for speedo gears is www.tacomaspeedometer.com , they're cheap and ship quick.

Update:

I found out that the local jeep stealership had a 43 tooth gear available. I recalculated it several times on several sites and found that I needed a 43 tooth gear. I have it coming from Detroit... Don't ask me why I was thinking 41.  I think the 41 is what I need with 35 inch tires and 5.89's...

5.89 x 37 inch tires

Thanks for the link. I'll hang on to it.
