1984 CJ7/1993 YJ Hybrid

I was looking for some opinions on an idea that I had. My brother has a 1984 CJ7 sitting at my parents that he does nothing with. It has the inline 6 bored .06 over with automatic. He said he would sell it to me for $2k. The body isn't in that great of shape, but I thought that I could use other parts from it. Like the engine, transmission, t-case, tires rims and axles. He has five Super swapers w/ 90% tread on them as well. I figured I could buy it, take what I needed and sell the rest including what I replaced.

Any thoughts?

If the body is what you say it is, then it would be easier for you just to swap bodies. Removing all the mechanicals over would be time consuming and labor intensive. The YJ body has a couple body mounts that would need to change to mate to the CJ7 frame, but really, its a plug and play comparison. With the body off the CJ frame, go through it. They tend to rust out from within. Check the most rear crossmember as well as the rear axle hump areas.

With the CJ body on the YJ frame, sport cut the body enough to make it capable for 35's on the YJ suspension. Then sell that for a good return.

The YJ frame is stronger.  It would probably be better to swap some things.  If you end up with two working Jeeps after the swapping you can sell one to recover some costs.  I've often thought about buying a Wagoneer for the axles and putting the YJ axles on it and selling it to recover some money.
