eliminating EGR?
« on: November 06, 2008, 07:07:40 AM »
I have an 86 2.5l TBI cherokee and am considering plugging the egr set up, because after headers installed the egr tube runing from header to under intake doesnt line up. so my question is since i cant get the computer tuned or a chip for it, would there be any adverse reactions such as knock or ping, since there is no sensor to tell that egr is not functioning to override these symptoms. as i understand it, the egr gases lower cylinder temps, and have read that if you advance/retard the timing this will help, but my distributer is not adjustable. does anyone have any suggestions? as of right now i have cut the egr tube and put in a short piece of that blue hose thats used for trans,fuel,etc.. to hook it up, but this doesnt last long before it starts to get loose and leak. any suggestions would be appriciated. thanks

Easiest way to fix it would be a couple compression fittings and some appropriately sized steel brake/fuel line.
