Topic: Dana 35 problem

My 97 Tj rear axle started leaking from the pinion seal. After futher investigation, I found out the pinion bearing is worn out.
My question is, after everything I've read about the Dana 35 being very weak, I wonder if I should fix this rear end or get a better one. I can get the bearings and seal for around $50. from Quadratec. I can replace the bearings myself. Just feeling lazy too.

Boils down to your time, skills, and money.  The Ford 8.8 is a great option, buy the axle and a $300 bracket kit and assemble.

the first and biggest question is what size tires do you have now, what size tires do you plan to run in the future and how soon do you plan to upgrade?  If your 33's or less and plan to stay there, I would keep the 35 and just fix the bearing, why put a boat anchor under the back of your Jeep if you don't need it.  If your looking at running 35's or bigger tires in the next year or less then upgrade to a bigger axle.
