Thanks for he quick replies! I'm going to do this after it warms up a bit. I gave it some more thought and decided I was overlooking the obvious- the fuel pump relay. Swapped relays and the FP kicks on when the key is turned, and she fired right up. I had an extra relay and plugged it in so the latch relay would work, and I'm set.
Fuel tank swap: I'll use the correct fuel pump- I read somewhere that it's not wise to try to push to much fuel thru the TBI pressure regulator. I don't remember all the reasons, but it does make sense. If the gauge sender isn't compatible with the '89 gauge, I'll have to see about adapting the old sender- maybe lengthen the arm as needed. I really don't see that much of a problem; I just don't want to overlook the obvious (I have the tendecy to do that).
