WTH are these codes?
« on: April 09, 2009, 09:57:27 PM »
So, I had my AC recharged/fixed today.
CEL come on with 11 and 33.
I looked at the codes in the FAQ and they don't make sense.
Anybody explain:
11

    * No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking.
    * Intermittent loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor.
    * CKP sensor target windows have too much variation.

Jeep starts and runs like normal.

33    An open or shorted condition detected in the duty cycle purge solenoid circuit.

I don't even know what that means.

I guess I counted wrong.
I'm getting codes 15 and 27.

15*   No vehicle distance (speed) sensor signal detected during road load conditions.
27*    Injector #1 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or Injector #2 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or Injector #3 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.
or Injector #4 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal.

Okay, so my speedo doesn't work, obviously because I don't have any signal from the TC. Would the code trip because the speedo stopped working?
There doesn't appear to be any break in the wires. Is there a sensor that can actually fail?

Yes, the speed sensor can fail & it will throw a code.  It will also cause the jeep to run poorly.

Any way to test the sensor?

I would pull the speedo gear and check its condition and reinstall it making sure it is clocked correctly.  Then check the wiring for any visible problems.

Most parts stores carry the speed sensor, it's a common replacement part.

Picked up a sensor for $28.
It has to be spliced in, so I'm kind of hesitant to replace this if it could be something else.
I pulled the spedo/tach box and the circuit board doesn't have any burn-throughs. Apparently this is a common failure too, but not my issue.
Could it be anything else?

If the gear checks out and you know it's clocked correctly, most likely the speed sensor.

Well, the VSS was the problem. New sensor and everything is great!
