U-joints.  The CV joints are for full time 4wd where you need it to roll smoothly on curves at high speed.  Lots of ZJ owners convert to u-joints when they start to get more extreme.

what year xj has the solid shaft and larger ujoint so I know where to look at the u pull it yard

I´m not sure.  Maybe somebody else has that information.

My '94 was manufactured in June and had the smaller ones...  JFYI
