Relay for YJ gauge lights...
« on: May 31, 2009, 10:08:37 PM »
Anyone have details on the relay in the dash of a YJ? Normally open or normally closed? It is a common relay. I am guessing that one could be had at Radio Shack...

Or how about a part number?

Thanks guys!

If you pull the part in question, you may find a part number on it.  Some electrical parts have small schematics on the case.  I took a quick look at my FSM for '95 YJ and did not see any relays in the instrumentation circuit wire diagrams.

What year YJ are you working on?
95 YJ, 31 BFG ATs, 4.0 TB & spacer, Banks header, DynoMax CAT back, 19# inj, AEM CAI, 20 gal mod, Optima yellow
98 TJ, 35 BFG Krawlers, 4.0 liter, ax15, atlas 5:1, armor, Super 88 (under construction)
96 XJ Cheep Cherokee, 33s, 4.0 liter, AW4, future project
89 Waggy, 360 V8 727 dana 44s, it runs

1995... It's a late YJ too.

I finally figured out what was going on. There was a broken wire about 10 inches from the fuse block making intermittent contact.  :brick:
Now, I am looking for an alternator.  :brick: When it rains, it pours... Going with at least the 136 amp one out of the 98 Grand. I'll be checking with a few local alternator/automotive electrical shops today.

Thanks for looking!

Check eBay as well; I found mine there for a good price...

I scored a 136 amp 98 Grand alternator for $40! With everything on as high, fast, loud, and as bright as it can get, I have 14.2 volts continuously now...

Thanks to Jeffy, the head nacho! His contributions here are great. I used the alternator page that he has here.  :beers:
