P1391 CODE
« on: June 15, 2009, 09:01:56 PM »
I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L.  I just had the engine rebuilt (long block replacement) and ever since I get a CEL and the code is P1391.  I have checked the crankshaft sensor with an ohm meter as several have instructed by I don't get the readings I expect.  I compare the reading to another jeep and it seems to be about the same.  I never get a reading around 250 ohms as I am told to expect. I did not replace the distributor. Is this where the camshaft sensor is?   If I disconnect the crankshaft sensor the engine will not start at all.  Where do I go next to eliminate this issue?  How can I determine the faulty culprit?  Thanks for your help.

Just got done dealing with my crank position center.  The new one was worse than the old one, second one was fine.  If your getting the code why haven't you replaced the part indicated?  Your luck the Jeep runs if its the cps has gone bad.  Even if your getting a good OHM reading it could still be bad.  You have to have the sensor for the Jeep to run, thats why it won't start.

I haven't replaced it because I have read too many forums that indicate people had the code, replaced the sensor with no luck.  At around 80 bucks I wanted to be sure first.  Besides, I didn't have the code before replacing the engine.

Well its pretty common for sensors to go out on the TJ's.  I rebuild doesn't replace sensors unless they are busted at the time.  Never heard that being a common problem with the sensor.  I had to swap mine twice because the first one didn't fix it.  I would suspect it was more likely that the cheap replacement sensors were bad from the get go.  I only paid $65 so look around before you buy it.
