hey guys,

Just curious as to who here frequents their local pick-a-parts rummaging around for used parts. I myself consider it an adventure and it truly does pay off. I do love saving money. I found exactly what I was looking for when I stumbled across a lone full size 89 grand wagoneer. I took both front and rear D44's for about 150 a piece. ha.

What did you pick up and what did you pay for it? Im always interested to know what people are paying for what at these pick a parts, because I'm always looking for something new to upgrade.

Picked up my Isuzu rear d44 from a pick'n'pull type junkyard, for $125.  Pretty good price for a disc brake axle.  It's always fun trying to balance an axle on a wheelbarrow by yourself.

Stumbled across a RHD Cherokee one day and grabbed the steering linkage, it's great for flipping the steering linkage of a XJ/TJ/ZJ to over the steering arms as the bend in the draglink is the opposite direction as stock.

Then there's the Taurus fan's that I can get for $10 each all day long, usually lying next to the car as somebody went through the trouble to remove it to get to something else.  Thank you very much.

I loved to go through the U-Pick we had near my home in Miami (have yet to find a U-Pick type place here in Costa Rica).  I went and grabbed a Ford fan (and like bounty said, someone took the trouble of getting it off the car for me!) for $28 after taxes.  I also picked up some Pontiac louvers for my hood ($10) whoch ended up looking quite nice.  Also found some other small stuff that I was missing (one valve cover screw, a replacement for a hose, etc.) and serioously considered taking the supercharger from a Grand Marquis (IIRC), but was not sure it would work on the Jeep, so I left that one...

local pick and pull isn't so local for me (at least the ones i know of) and its $10 just to get in so i don't go too often but when i do its fun.. got Taurus fan for like $12.. back in the day there was a junkyard close and we would go there all the time getting parts to convert out cjs over to disk brakes. and power steering components. but now that yard has a few million dollar homes on it...

$10!???! The ones around here are 1 or 2 bucks to get in tops. Dannggg.

Also, where I went to get my D44's all we brought were hand tools. Every single nut was siezed on that thing. We were there for a good 4 hours baking in the sun getting those things off. hahah.

1$ is great. Cheap to get it and walk around. Some of those places are big enough to get lost in. So much stuff to look around at.

Got a complete aftermarket Webber and intake manifold for a Datsun pickup for 15 bucks and it was like brand new.... Whoot.

Volvo INtercoolers, 10 bucks.

We don't have junkyards here  Well we have one but it is really a JUNKyard, there is nothing useful there

haha I hate that! That are quite a few in socal. Most of the places that have jeeps arent true pick a parts, they part em out and somehow justify selling you 1 stock axle for 400 bucks when I picked up two beefier ones from a pick a part for almost 100 dollars less.

i picked up a 8.8 out of a 99 explorer for 56 bucks disc to disc . . . . .i love half price weekends

I have never seen any wrangler at any normal pick a part store.

Not to many Jeeps at all either. When i went 2 weeks ago there was and old Wagoneer and 2 Cherokee's  that were gutted of their axles.

Yeah, the only reason that I look for a wrangler is when Im looking to see if I can take an inline six or ax-15 transmission out of it. I was excited to find a scout once, because I believe certain years have the 60 rear and 44 front, but you gotta find the certain year that is a driver drop. Its fun searchin though.
