Yup, lots of Jeeps, CJ, YJ, TJ, etc...  get stolen in Socal.  I think most end up going across the boarder.  They like anything lifted.

A friend of mine had his YJ stolen in San Diego.

The mexicans up here seem to prefer chevy pickup trucks with huge script letters in the back window.  I don't think I've ever heard of a stolen jeep up here, even break ins are not very common.

The clowns'? Oh, yeah, the clowns. We fight them too — entire armies, spilling out of Volkswagons. We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending 'em in!
94 YJ - gone
98 ZJ - sons truck
97 TJ - daughters project

That's one thing that's bugging me:  Somebody rips off a car/truck in the LA Metro area, he can get on the 405-S and be at the border crossing within 2-3 hours depending on time of day.

So if my Jeep was ripped off while I wasn't around and I had one of those Escort Entourages on it, the Entourage thing, due to my location, would probably end up providing me an "invaluable" readout on my PC, a few hours later, along the lines of, "we've located your vehicle and its currently sitting in a police car parking lot in Tijuana, or its currently sitting at a "George's Body Shop" in Baja...we highly recommend that you contact your local law enforcement officials and inform them of your vehicle's location based on the data provided by your Entourage...Thank you for using Escort Entourage!"

Let's see what happens when I tell local law enforcement (LAPD), "My Jeep was stolen, but I know exactly where it is -- Mexico!  Yeah, I've got one of those Entourage deals planted so I know precisely where it's located down there, too...  Hey, I realize that this would take you out of your jurisdiction, but I was wondering if maybe you and few of your fellow officers could do me the favor of taking a day off, driving south for a few hours, crossing the border in to Mexico, and then swiping my Jeep back and driving it back up to LA County for me?     Wow, you will?...Man, you guys are awesome!  ...Wait, you were being serious, right?"   :baby:

thing is robbers are random.. my jeep was parked in the side yard near the road for 2 years with nothing but a soft top.. then 1 Saturday after i put the hard top on and i had the jeep parked in the driveway someone decided they would slash the soft upper door and try to steal the radio (cheapest one money can buy at best buy).. i was only gone for an hour and my brother was home... the slashed door cost me more than the radio they failed to steal.. i haven't locked my doors since.

take valuables out of jeep and leave it unlocked, if you have a radio beef up its mounting abit more than the standard radio and take the faceplate off and you should be good. although i like the huge chain around a telephone pole idea.

That same kind of thing happened to mine when I was staying out in Pico Rivera, Ca in '03.  Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember I had pulled the fuse on the alarm and locked the pedals then also for some reason.

Anyway, I walk down in the early morning to a covered parking area where I left my Jeep the night before.  Get to it and see that the somebody slashed the left rear, soft-top window.  I get inside to look and see how else they f'ed with it.  I had pulled the old radio a while back, so there was nothing for them to hit there.

I had the back seat out at the time. When I looked back there, I saw that a beat-up tackle box that belonged to my great grand-dad was gone.  I had been using it as a tool box for years because I figured, "what self-respecting thief is going to waste time looking-twice at a rusty, POS, throw-away-looking unit like that?"

Of course, when it got ripped off, so did the $100-150 worth of tools I had in it.   And, rusty or not, that tacklebox was also worth something to me

In the years since, I installed a Tuffy center console that also holds my current receiver.  I also put in a Bestop trunk behind the back seat.

I was trying to sell my jeep before I decided to hang on to it since it was paid off, and the only thing in there was my registration book and the kids cut the window out and stole that cause that was the only thing in there.  I had taken the radio out to help deter people from breaking in.  They broke in to a junk yard after my jeep and got cornered by the dogs that they let out at night so I ended up getting money to buy a new top, they just paid me $15 a week so it took forever  :brick:
