a few question...
« on: July 21, 2010, 07:50:06 PM »
alright guys i have a couple of questions that i was hoping you guys could help me out with... my jeep is a 2004 with a 2.4l

first, i just ordered a 3 inch lift and i was wondering if i need to replace the track bar to a adjustable.

second, what gears are in the rear end? and what gearing is recomended for my jeep i have 31 10.50 tires and i need a little more pep and im thinkin gears would help for that.

third, is an a/c problem. my compressor kicks on and off constantly at idle and if it idles for too long the temp goes way up. my fan is working properly i have replaced the fan speed relays just to be on the safe side. and i have also had a buddy of mine check the freeon level and was told everything was good. this problem only occurs when its hot outside and at idle. in the morning or at night theres no problems.

thanks in advance for any and all replies and advice.

As for the trackbar, you can get an adjustable, the Rough Country is only $99, or you can redrill the hole for the axle end of the trackbar approximately 1/2" toward the driver's side, whatever distance is needed to recenter the axle after the lift.

Check the diff tags for the gear ratio, they're bolted under the diff cover bolts.

a/c

It sounds like your refrigerant level is off.  Need to have an A/C person look at it for specific problem.  Too much head pressure (which happens on hot days) will trip the high pressure switch or if it's too low it will trip the low pressure switch.  Whenever those switches are tripped, it turns off the compressor.  Most likely the system is low on refrigerant unless work has been recently done to it.

What you can try before empting your pocket is get a can of the R-134a with the gauge on it (Autozone, Walmart, or just about any auto parts store carries them).  Hook it up as directed, turn on your system and watch the level (which will be the low side).  If the pressures too low, add a little bit more until the gauge gets into the green.  If it's not low, then you used your cheaper of two options first, this is far as I would go without getting more help.  ;)

NOTE:  Too much refrigerant will keep you a/c system from even turning on.
