Steering Gear Bolt size?
« on: May 02, 2011, 10:13:10 AM »
One of the bolts that attach the steering gear to the frame of my '95YJ has sheered off, this bolt is no longer offered through the dealership.  So if anyone knows the size of the bolt (the forward most) it sure would help in parts ordering. Otherwise I'll have to down the Jeep and remove the other bolt for comparison.  It is the forward most bolt that goes through the frame and into the gear housing.  Thanks!

Just recently messed with this.  The through-frame bolts are 7/16, the forward bolt is 5.5" long and the rear bolt is 5" long.

THANKS!  Here's a thought... are these bolts the same size/grade on a TJ?  They would still be carried by the dealership if they are.  Thanks again.

It's worth a try.  Just take a ruler and a 7/16 nut with you.  Good luck with your Jeep.
