I under stand where your going with installing a small block but I don't need that kind of power. I have an old Cummins 4b non turbo that I was planning on installing in it. But it needs a bunch of work to be converted from stationary to non stationary  not to mention a turbo.
That works too.  If that's the case though, you'll probably want a stronger transmission than something that will fit behind a 2.5l and again the regearing isn't as desireable.

The 4B can make far more torque than a SBC - it's a nice choice, but it does require the beefed up driveline to keep up.  I'm surprised more people don't use OM617 Benz engines - they seem almost ideal.

I prefer an auto over manual when crawling and muddin'. Went wheeling in Rapid City 2 weekends ago. There was a 4.0l TJ with 5-sp. And I had my 2.5/auto. My son drove the TJ up, over, backed off to realign the rear axle, and up over again this rock called Jason's Rock. The 5-sp TJ slipped the rear and still drove forward. He also had the hand throttle. Locked and 4.56s. I'm locked and 4.88s. He was on 35" MTRs and I'm on 35" KM2s.
Hope the video comes over from FB.

Vids above is the Iceman trail. The large rock is referred to as Jason's Rock. Story is Jason Pauly was out for a photo shoot with his newest buggy. Photographer asked Jason to climb as high as he could over the rock to shoot some pics. Jason just drove over it, awing the photographer. With the right line everyone with lockers (front) can do it.

I have been looking into one of them also, but for now I think I am going to invest in axles, lockers and an OEM auto swap for now.

Unable to see them maybe because I am on an iPad. Do you have the YouTube link?

Well I got my donor vehicle! And it only cost me $28.00 and about 2 hours of my labor. It's a 1986 2 door Cherokee with a 2.8l auto. It also has a 4:10 hp Dana 30 front axle with no disconnect and 35 non c clip. I may make out good on this deal. Since it's a 2 door I think there worth a little money and the axles some 4.0l persons going to want them.

I setup an appointment with the local gear guy for next week so the project will now start.
