Controlling Cost of Jeep Upgrade by Using Ebay

(This ain't "news" to most of you guys, but it was news to me since, though I had bought a few items on Ebay over the last decade, I had never sold anything

Just 15-20 years ago, all you had was newspaper classifieds & a few specific magazines if you wanted to resell car/truck parts (let me know if I missed other resale options). And the breadth of the exposure of your parts to potential buyers was always limited.  So, the prices you could get were always limited.

I had to resell a couple of Jeep parts (TB Spacer and a well-used Soft top) with EBay, recently, and I was knocked out by the fact that you could readily get frigging 50 cents on the dollar for items that were 2-3 years old and process the transaction for little effort -- other than mailing the item.  Frankly, 15-20 years ago, you might as well just have thrown those items away because cost-effective resale, especially returning 50 cents on the dollar, was just impossible.

When you figure that the more serious Jeep CJ, YJ, TJ, KJ and CJ-era-variation owners (JK, who knows) upgrade their vehicles probably more than owners of any other vehicle made,  you see where EBay is definitely the friend of the Jeep owner.  A Jeep's old parts come off and need to be sold somewhere, right?  Anyway, from a financial perspective (and, if you are good with your hands so you are not blowing huge money on "Labor"),  you can, nowadays, actually control some of the cost of upgrading your Jeep by reselling your old parts on Ebay.

(Ok, you guys are going, "no sh#$ Franklin, I've been selling my Jeep parts on Ebay for the last 10 years... what, you been under a rock since Bill Clinton got re-elected?

Chris, WTF?

I thought we were tripping up to Big Bear this weekend   (Kidding).  My G-friend's back in town and I gotta do what she wants to do this weekend

Sh#$ man I gotta get my rear shocks replaced, fixed whatever.  they got bunged up from Miller Jeep -- some f-ed up deal where it seems like the rear Bilsteins won't actuate all the way cause of big dents in the resevoir that are obstructing the pistons and the floating plate things.  Actually, it's not that big a deal.  Probably should just go to big bear, f-it up worse and then get it all fixed

Running out of good trails to do in So Cal after Big Bear.   May try The Rubicon Trail -500 miles north of LA and Moab, Ut -750 miles North- East of LA -- these are basically week-long  trips.

After that, for So Cal, it's just "The Hammers" and "Doran Loop"  -- these two trails are going to need winches, 33s, 4.5 suspension lift, front/rear lockers, new rear axle, at least for me.

Ahh, I didn't want to start making annual $2000 contributions to my IRA account anyway

BTW Resubmitted the TR Rubcon question to DC/Dr. Z; told them that if I didn't get the answer I was looking for, I would go higher in their organization and not speak well of the Dr. Z team.  Also said that "987 sold in 2003" and "over 1000 were made" are not acceptable answers and that I am a Jeep Collector and "I need the exact number manufatured during the total TR Rubicon production run."

So...  (Staying on subject;)) I've sold retail (and wholesale) for many years...   I am familiar with reselling (and swap meets).  And the greatest sales ploy, and true to life fact regarding Jeep parts is...

It's a commodity.  Someone always wants a Jeep part.  Usually, no matter what it is, someone will take it off your hands.  If you buy a decent used part and keep it decent, there's a good chance that you can get most of your money back.  And a new part is easy to sell at .50 to the dollar (or better in some cases).

This is great when it comes to upgrading and redesigning for one's own personal style.  I always dais that Jeeps are built.  The process of added, also requires removal.  People who upgrade their D35 axles aren't wasting money (well??), but an upgraded D35 is certainly worth a lot more than a stock one.  And it's worth a real lot to someone who has a broken one.

Craigslist is good, but sometimes it moves way to fast.  If you don't use the search feature, things end up on the second or third pages within hours..  In a day or two, that ad is lost in the mix.  I like Craigslist alot!

And back to...  Cool to read about all the awesome wheeling in California...  I pray to do Rubicon, Fordyce amd the hammers....

Moab too will come some day.
