Where can i find a ?..............................!!!!!!!!!
« on: August 01, 2006, 04:14:43 AM »
Now that the wife has a rubi, we have her vehicle to take people wheel'n and I can take my back seat out and replace it with some type of storage unit like I have been wanting to do. Is anyone else running no back seat, and have some sort of storage box or trunk system inplace of the seat. I won't be hauling anythink crazy just the normal trail gear. If its not too much trouble please post a picture. I'm a visual learner ( :D jarhead  ) thanks alot motivators keep tire side down!!!!!

http://www.fourxdoctor.com/

Jeffy and SMC directed me back to 4xDoctors in Burbank for reasonably priced diff guards.  I saw on their site that 4xDoctors also made/sold a lockable storage cover that you install in place of the back seat on Wranglers -- looked like the price was good, quality hopefully on par with Tuffy. Post: Course,  now that I am looking at the site, they are saying that the lockable cover is coming soon for TJs... ahh, nevermind

Still no word back from the DC people on the TR Rubis.  They are either ignoring the request for the number made or they are hunting around for an answer that may not exactly be sitting in plain sight  :lol[/url]

What about a Tuffy trunk or the Bestop extended trunk?

I have the standard Bestop trunk and it installs in about 1 minute and is easily removeable.

Tuffy's storage boxes are 'top notch'.  Really expensive, but probably the best out there.

Another company is www.jeepbox.com  I haven't had a chance to browse their site much, but I hear they make pretty good stuff.

I had some ideas regarding making my own storage, security deal...   In retail stores and showrooms, they have those colored 1" x 1" square display racks...  the ones peg hooks kinda hang onto.  Well I wanted to cut one to size of the trunk part.  Bolt U-shaped supports at the back of it (behind the seats) and a latching mechanism at the tailgate side.  This will offer kinda a shelf at the wheel well height and security underneath it.  You'll be able to see whats there, but unless it's smaller than 1", you can't get at it.  Certainly would be cheap.  Steel grids are a good start on security, and it'll have area's all through out to strap down a million things on top of it (tent, sleeping bag, any other form of a bag, etc.)

If, and when I invent this, I'll show pictures of it.

I made my own . I used three small  seperate sheets of 1/4" plywood across the deck, cut circles out for the roll bars and laid them down. nailed them together. I used 2x2x2's ? for reinforcement underneath that run side to side . And in front I brought it down at an angle so when I recline my seats i do not bump the storage ,so from the deck I put a mitre cut in the wood frame ,and it meets with the edge of the trunk floor boundary behind my front seats.  I built it to open from the front, and it ends at the tail gate so it is closed when the tail gate is closed. I am 245 lbs and I can sit on it and it will hold me. I then carpeted the top of it, and it cost me around $40.00 to make. They say wood is  stronger  than steel, pound for pound.

I based it on the stock wranglers hide a trunk, but elongated it and closed it off. You could take a look at any wrangler with it and go from there I suppose. Just use some creativity and make it yours.

San Bernardino. I am in "Just Runs" of san diego but rarely go on runs because I work on Saturdays when most of the runs are. I can only do moderate runs because I do not have a oil pan skid plate yet and only 30" tires. I was thinking of getting s.s tsl 31x9.50 15's for my 4 banger but I hear they only last for like 6 months, but the smaller width size  might be the ticket for increased power for the 4cylinder. I had 31x 10.50's before and they bogged me down with the 4:10 gear ratio, so the 30x9.50 are better for 5th gear use. I'm thinking scientifically about it.
