Since this forum is for 4 bangers, I'll ask this here. Does anyone have a 2.4L 6 speed with 33" tires and 4.88 gears? How does this work on the 4 cyl? Is it about like it was with stock tires and gears. I have 28" tires and 3.73 gears now. Please don't tell me to buy a 6 cyl.

I have a 05 with 2.4l and a 6 spd i'm also running 3:73 gears and 33 inch bfg mud terrains, and its not too bad i can hit 65,70 on the free way. 6th gear is almost un useable except for flat land and you want to do 50  or below other than that your using 5th and sometimes 4th. I also plan on bumping the gears down to 4:88 but with our axles you have to  buy new carriers too or buy a locker that includes the carrier since the 3:73 carrier will not accomidate a 4:88 ring gear!! good luck let me know what works the best for you!

                    p.s I have a cold air intake and flowmaster 40 series delta flow on my jeep, so it has 2-3 more squirles under the hood, and my speedo is off due to the tires so 65,70 is probly more like 70,75

I just got new tires yokohama AT 2's- 30x9.50 and was passing a guy that had a big digital dash in a toyota. My speedo read 70 and his read 75. i was tripping because I get around town and the police mobile speed informer computer says my speedo is accurate. I have had that jeep up to 80 mph on a commute before, compared to what a toyota says.    
     I never did like foreign cars. I always felt they were lying to me,and the advertisements and salesmen too.  I want to know if I got to recalibrate my computer after I put in a header and intake system and throttle body spacer,or just get a chip.

chips don't recalibrate stuff for you, programmers do, big diffrence! and no that stuff would not throw off your speedo, the speedo is controlled by a small gear that goes into the tailshaft of your transfer case!

Your speedo (with 30x9.50 ) is most likely off 5 MPH.That sounds about right going from factory 28" tires........................ :D

I have been looking for anyone on the internet with a 2.4L 6sp and 33's with 4:88 or 4:56 gears for about a year.  I have had no luck.  No matter who you talk to they will tell you to go with 4:88 if you have a 4cyl and 33" tires.  There are other things to consider like the HP, transmission, and gearbox.  The thing is is that the 6speed has a lower gear ratio in 6th gear in 05 than the 5sp did in fifth gear in 04.  I have the same set up as zeitlerusmc, a 05 2.4L, 33's, 6sp with 3:73's.  I took it in Monday Oct 23 to put a set of 4:56's in it regardless of what everyone has told me (everyone that has the AX5 transmission instead of the NSG??? bla bla bla).   I couldnt decide between 4:88 and 4:56 until I arrived at Tennessee Offroad to have it done.  The 4:88's would have put me at ~390RPMS higher than stock at 70mph and the 4:56's was around 200rpms higher than stock.  4:88's seemed like it was to big of a jump from 3:73's in my opinion.  The 04 with the 5sp 33's 2.4L, was much less of a jump from the 4:11 to the 4:88 and only increased the RPS around 100RPM's at 70mph.  I also wanted to try to keep my gas miliage in the upper teens also.  I believe that the 4:88's would have made it plumit.  I hope I made the correct decision and will let you know next week when I visit this forum so keep looking for my reply.

By the way zeitlerusmc I think your wrong about the 4:88's.  Double check that.  I think they make them know to fit our carriers.

I have an 05 SE running 32X11.50's and 4.56 gears. It does runner higher than stock but it also runs better than stock. I am building an XJ D44 and am going to regear to 4:88 and move to the tallest 33's I can find. With my current setup I regularly get 16.7 in the city, and 21+ on the road. The 4.56 is a good combination with the 32's I have, but the Mud Rovers  measure short. I would not install a taller tire with my current setup.

Dana 30 carrier break is 3.73 & up...  (3.73, 4.10, 4.56 & 4.88)

Dana 35 is 3.54 and up (3.54, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56 & 4.88)

Dana 44 is 3.92 & up (4.10, 4.56 & 4.88, 5.13)
