Hello.  My name is Dempsey.  I'm a long-time web forum user, but new to this specific forum.  It seemed only natural for me to join, as I currently own a '97 TJ with the 2.5L engine and 5-speed transmission.  This is my fourth TJ; my first three (in order) were a 2001 Sport automatic (purchased brand new and factory ordered), a 2000 SE 5-speed and a '97 Sahara automatic.

For the curious, my mods to my current SE are as follows:

-TeraFlex budget boost
-31" Wrangler MT/Rs
-deleted rear swaybar
-SmittyBilt rocker guards with tubing
-a few other insignificant odds and ends

Here is an old picture before the rocker guards:

This isn't exactly what I prefer in a TJ; I purchased it solely because it was extremely inexpensive and I was missing having a Wrangler.  I've had it over a year now and it still keeps me happy.  My next mod will probably be an electric fan conversion.

Anyway, that's me.

Hi. New Jeep TJ owner here. New to me anyway! Just bought a 2002 Wrangler 4 banger. Fun little Jeep. My son has a 1991 YJ 4 banger. His has a three inch suspension lift and he runs 33X12.50 BFG ATs. Mine looks like a toy next to his since it is basically stock! Mine came with 32X11.50 Mud Kings but the road noise has me wanting to switch to some ATs. The 32X11.50 are a bit big considering there is no lift, body or suspension.

I got it as a weekend toy, but I find myself driving it to work every day lately!

I just bought myself a '92 YJ. It's a four banger, obviously. Why else would I be here?

I had my '94 ZJ for a while, wheeled it a little bit. My dad forbid me to wheel it after I had 9 people in it because he didn't want me to break anything on it since it's my DD. A week later I came across the YJ at a friend's scrap business. Ran, barely needed work, picked it up for $800. It's in storage until next spring, when I can afford to insure it.

Anywho, here it is...

Well, I was referred to this site by one of the guys over on JF.com. . . I just picked up what I've been told is "the cleanest YJ around/in the state/in the country" lol

Anyways, it's an '88 Wrangler 2.5 (obviously) 5 speed, only rust is some light surface rust on the windshield frame, as well as some that has formed in a couple of scratches that are referred to as "Previous Owner's Jealous Ex-Girlfriend Scars".  There is a crack in the tailgate from 123k miles with a 31" spare on the stock mount. . . Other than that, the Jeep is solid.  No rust on the frame, not even surface rust on the floor pans, no replaced sheet metal.  I'm looking for a new tailgate, and I'll start working on repairing the rusted panels and repainting them.  The previous owner installed some pretty unique "dome lights"/interior lights.  They look like small license plate lights attached to the dash directly below the speakers, and they are wired up to the dome light knob.  They were also wired to the door switches, but I cut the wire when they started turning on even with the doors closed, not to mention, the doors will be off most of the time up until winter hits.

The beautiful part of it all?  FULL COVERAGE Insurance with a $500 deductible is $30/month.  That includes roadside assistance and free towing, as well as rental coverage.  If anything happens to the Jeep, it will be towed to a body shop, professionally repaired, and while it's being worked on, I'll be driving around in a free rental car. . . I'm absolutely amazed at the coverage I was able to get on the Jeep.  My Firebird costs twice that for PL/PD, no collision coverage, no roadside assistance, nothing.  Just the bare minimum to keep it legal costs me $60.11/month on that car. . .

I'm still in shock at what kind of deal I got on this thing.  I was in shock when I was able to get the Jeep up to 70 on the highway on the way home. . . I had to put it in 4th when going up any kind of hill, but for the most part, I was right around 70-75mph on the highway the whole way home.  My last YJ ('88 2.5 5 speed as well, 48k original miles) topped out at 65, unless going downhill with a tailwind, then I could hit 71.  It could be the 31's on this one though, the speedometer could be off a little bit.

Anyway, here are some pics!

Hey everyone,

My name is Scott, live in east texas. Love jeep'in. Married 30 years. Have 2 sons. Both have Jeeps. This is the second jeep I've owned. The first one had the 4.0 in it. I miss the power...but I got a great deal on my 05. It had the 3 inch lift, tube bumpers, tube step bars. I've added Pioneer stereo and a winch. I made a box in the back to have a secure lockable "trunk". Turned out really nice for about 20 bucks.  I work a IT job out of it on weekdays.

Hello Everyone

I have a 92 yj 4 banger with a blown engine...I understand that it would be much cheaper and easier to replace with the same, but is their somewhere to buy one with higher performance...lol. A bad boy 4 banger.

Good evening all, I have purchased a 1999 YJ and enjoyed the privilege of driving it until a couple months ago when it developed a knock in the bottom end, hence I start it up weekly due to the knock and only for a few minutes. I have searched throughout Ok,Ar, Ks, Tx, and La for another engine and have been unable to locate a suitable replacement. I am 49 and will be 50 early next year and I regret waiting so long to acquire the jeep. I look forward to getting it back on the road and enjoying offroading when the mood strikes.
