I just found your website. I bought a bone stock 2001 Wrangler se, brand new in 2000 and bulit it up after I paid it off. I got a 2" pro-comp lift, quick disconnects, arb air locker in the  rear, 30" bfg a/t's, rock it intake, banks header, poweraid tbs, door locks, hood locks, and some other small stuff. I have done some hairy trails  in San Bernardino county, as well as dorian and odessa canyon in high desert ,Ca and northern California inyo mountains all with out any tads, just a tad lucky with the skinny pedal.

Tried to post my intro the other day but it did not log on.  Just aquired a 1988 TJ stock all the way.  I will probably wear out my welcome with questions as I have never done much or do know too much about mechanical stuff.  My starting point is a standard tune up, new alternator, and a bolt for the manifold which is missing.  I have the stock hard top but would like to buy a really good soft top right away.  I hear alot of talk on having the right rear end and front ends--pretty well lost here so I will need advise.  I will post more in the other areas as I get started with the project.

Thanks for letting me join.

Thanks a ton.  That is about exactly how I want my ride to turn out.  Looks great.  When you have time maybe you can just give me the overview what order you did things and if there is anything you would do different.  I will have to have mine painted.

Thanks again, the posts got me pretty fired up to started.

Okay...I went from driving a $40,000 car to this:

Jeep (with hard top, everything else stock) -- $8200

Tires and wheels -- $1100 (sold originals for $300)

Window tinting -- $140 (professionally done...whole hard top and front doors)

Aluminum gas hatch -- $60

Tuffy Center console -- $200??

Stereo/Subwoofer/speakers/amplifier -- $600

Supertop (with tinted windows) -- $500

Safari top -- $80

soft half doors -- $130??

3" 4wd.com lift kit -- $450??

LiteDots rear LED lights -- $200 (ouch...but I love them sooo much....bling bling)

KC back-up lights -- $60

KC 150W daylighters up front -- $100?

Hella horn -- $40

Rool Bar handles -- $25

No one add that up please....I've convinced my wife I'm SAVING money as I don't have the car payment for the Audi every month!!

You can look like mine in the picture though with just the wheels/tires, 3" lift and the safari top....the rest is for my driving and poseur enjoyment only!!

Next year (February time frame):  8.8 axle, SYE/driveshaft conversion, 35" tires (on same wheels or those AR teflon ones), gear to 4.88.

Year after that (or one more after that)....would love a new V8 in there....yes..I do want a sleeper Jeep...

Front axle -- $3,000.

Rear axle -- $6,000.

Drivelines -- $700.

Transfer case -- $1000.

Alrighty, too high estimates, but that's where the fun is. Lotsa money on things you can't SEE.

Good humor and good information.  The wife has not said much, exept having a curious look about 12 time the past week and saying "So why do we need that".  It didn't help when a brought a collector Corvette home for her the same week, but decided it needed too much mechanical work and took it back after a having it a week.  Yes the Jeep is staying.  Forgivness instead of permission.

The equipment listed I can understand, the axles, gears and such are pretty unfamiluar.  Do you wait to start breaking stuff before you replace or do you try to match tires and axles and stuff from the beginning?

I bought the biggest tires the stock suspension could handle (31's) because changing the axles can be a big ticket item dependin which way you want to go.....and I didn't know any better since I'm a newbie.

It seems to be the desire to change the gearing at the same time that adds that extra $500 bucks that pushes me over the edge.

I may jump up to the 35's just before I get the new rear axle as I do not wheel that hard or often and I really want me Jeep to stop looking like it is on roller skates.

Hello-

So, I am recently new to this site. I've been on the 4wd forum for some time now.

A little about me and my jeep:

I bought my Jeep in 04, my first vehicle and Jeep! since then ive only done some minor mods(saving up for the big lift...), all listed on the website which I created in notepad myself. I was promoted to a manager sept last year in the hardware store which i work. January I got married and in may my first child was born, a girl:), and the beginning of august i bought my first house. With all that ive managed to have a little money left over for mods on the jeep.

did i mention that im 22?

Livin' life one day at a time....

That's a good looking Jeep.  Congratulations from accomplishing so much at such a young age.  Good luck towards the future!

I hope that you find and give a lot of valuable information on this website.  You'll see that there are a lot of really cool people here who like to help.
