Hello from Nova Scotia CANADA.  Name is Jim. I have recently purchased a 1994 YJ 4Banger. Plans are for SOA, 2.5 Springs. 8.8 rear.full cage, seats 4point harness, tube flairs, track bar, 15x8 rockrawler wheels, 35 BFGs, body armour.  I am no stranger to 4wheeling we raced a 1973 and 1979 Chev in local Offroad series in Atlantic Canada. I am fortunate to have the resourses and ability to build alot of the parts that I need. Also a very good wife. (which is a great plus). This forum looks like it's going to be a lot of fun a wealth of info. Thanks for having me.

Whats going on fella's? New jeep owner here. 28 year old car nut who has  been moddings lt1/ls1 f-bodys for the last ten  years and I am getting out of the fast car thing for a while as it can get you in some serious trouble( Until I aquire a new Z28 in 2011). I have wanted a jeep wrangler for a long long time  but didnt want to pay 10k for one. Well I aquired a 2000 wrangler with 102,000 miles on it for 4,000$ and it is in realy nice dondition. Its a little 4 banger and I am already planning on a 5.3 swap years from now when the little 4 surrenders wich from what I understand may be a long time.

I am adjusting to driving something short of 500 HP and I have to say I am already quite fond of the ?Jeep.

Having owned an LS1 car you come expect some unrealistic things from boltons. My LS1 car was a full 3700 pd race weight bone stock and ran a 12.8@110 on street tires with nothing more then a catback and a handheld tuner.
Not that I am expecting this kind of bolt on success from any other platform but I am curious as to what kind of bolt ons this little 4cyl likes. There isnt much on here about it.  With that beings said here are a few questions that are not speciically answered in any threads I have uncovered so far.

Is there a header for a 2000 4cyl?
Does the header net any power?
is there a cai? does it net power?
How much can fuel mileage be improved with light bolt ons?

I am not trying to build a drag truck with the 4 cyl but I would like to get the most out of the litle engine that could.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.   I know that when it comes to quick knowledge you cannot beat forums with enthusiasts constantly visiting and having already learned most of this thrue trial and error.

Hey, I'm Random... I'll leave my name at that until I'm no longer a minor (6 months to go).

Parents bought a 1986 kitten-chopping (that sound out the back, haha) 4-banger XJ last year after I totaled the Dakota (not my fault, FYI), and I've slowly adopted it as MY jeep, and have been doing all the upkeep and upgrades, so far nothing great yet, but I'm liking it's simplicity and happiness as a first vehicle!

To the guy above me, there is a header, there is a supercharger, there are tons of upgrades for these little engines, but none of which I can buy!

BTW, anyone got a good MAP sensor? I don't like running without it hooked to my vacuum system, the idle went back to normal, but it scares me!

Hello all.  I'm new to the Jeep family. Picked up a 1987 YJ about 2 weeks ago.  The exterior is mint on this thing, new paint, rims, tires, lift, but the power train needs some work.  Everything is original from what I can tell. 4 banger, tranny, and TC.  I actually prefer the 4 banger, and I hope to gain some expertise from some knowledgable folks on here.

Hi everyone my name is Andrew from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. I bought my first 4 by 4 last summer which was a 94 Jeep YJ 2.5L. When I bought it the engine was blown so I put a rebuilt engine in it. Since the engine was blown I got a pretty good deal of 2500C with lots of extras like a warn M8000 winch, light bar, side steps, bumper loops, bush bar. Other than putting an engine in it I also replaced some brake parts, new shocks, aluminum checkerplate and finished everything off with a custom paint job. I recently bought an air intake, 63mm throttle body and a performance chip that should give me atleast 30HP. I have not done much offroading yet because its not lifted up but this summer I plan to put a lift kit on it and some bigger tires. Anyways I am just a beginner in the 4 by 4 world and thought that this site could give me some more knowledge and wisdom.

Hi Folks,

My name is Paul Roz and I live in central Maryland. I'd been lusting after a Jeep since I was a teenager (now a LONG time ago), and finally got a '90 YJ last August.

Project 1: Replace all of the rusted out and worn out bits, and get it on the road.  Done.

Project 2: Replace the AX-5 with a TH700R4. This is coming along pretty well. I bought a 700R4 from an '88 Camaro with the 60 degree V-6. This uses the same bellhousing as the 2.5 AMC engine. Novak Adaptors is making a flexplate for me to bolt the 700R4 torque converter to the Jeep's crankshaft. I'll need a transfer case adaptor and some driveshaft mods, but these are straightforward. I'm using the TCI Constant Pressure valve body, so that I won't burn up the trans if I don't get the Throttle Valve cable adjusted just right.

Using this transmission allows me to upgrade at a later date to the GM 3.4L V-6 crate motor, which weighs about the same as the 2.5 AMC, but is considerably more powerful.

Project 3: (And here's where I need some help) Converting my TBI motor to MPFI. I have a '94 2.5 engine with the wiring harness and the ECM. The engine, although low mileage, needs to be rebuilt. The kid that I got it from stored outside under a tarp for a few months, without plugging the exhaust. Stuck city. I got it loose, but want to go thru it before installing it.

So in the meantime I'd like to put the induction system on my old engine. I'm wondering what mods need to made to the engine. Where is the Crank Position Sensor mounted and what triggers it? Things like that...

Project 4: 4.88 gears so that I can use the 30% overdrive on the 700R4. With the stock 4.10 gears I'll be in 3rd gear most of the time. I'm using a manual lock-up switch, so I can lock it up in 3rd gear, but that's just a stop-gap measure.
(Speaking of changing gears: has anybody out there ever made a case stretcher? I hate to spend that much money for something that looks so simple...)

Any rate, I appreciate any info that y'all can give me. I've learned loads already by reading thru the previous posts. I'll let you know how the tranny swap works out.

- Paul Roz....

Hi Guys...  My name is Reymond.  I'm live in Oregon and  have a 98 TJ.  Some mods are Air Raid cold air intake, Jet Performance chip stage 2, Air raid TB spacer,  and some sort of exhaust from previous owner.  I sit on 32's and have a rubicon express 2.25 budget boost.  I'm kinda a rook to more advanced mods so sorry in advance for the "stupid questions"

Hi there.
I'm a US Army combat vet, living in the nice and rainy Northwest. I reside in Vancouver, WA.
My rig is a 1992 YJ with a.....you guessed it 2.5!
My greatest mod so far is the replacement skin for my top and 1/2 doors to replace the full soft doors!
I plan on doing an SYE someday.
I have some sort of lift...not sure what or how tall, but I'm pretty sure it is from Les Schwab since the wheels and tires are.
I've got Currie boomerangs, TJ spare carrier/3rd brake light, Brown Dog extreme kit (awesome!), crappy tube bumpers and nerf bars, front and rear are locked, posi-lok up front, and a super 35 in the back.
