I’ve been lurking for a while and checking out a few jeep sites. This site has a lot more information applicable to me. I’m from Texas and a fisherman. I like fishing the surf down on Padre Island National Seashore and decided to get something to use down at the coast. My first inclination was to get a used Bronco II or older Explorer or an XJ and after a couple of years of corrosion, get another. The problem I found was that all the cheap ones I found needed a lot of work. I found a ‘94 YJ with 46,000 miles that a guy had bought new for his daughter and she drove it some until she got married in 2003. It’s been garage kept, has a less than 3-year old interior, top, and tires. So far everything seems to work OK. The AC works but I made the mistake of trying the heater and defroster. They work well, but I can’t turn the heat off now.

My plans are to zero it out. Replace all the fluids, filters, hoses, vacuum lines etc. I’m going to add a tow bar so I can tow it down to the coast with my truck so I can leave it at a friend’s home for a while. I’m going to undercoat it and probably put a liner on the interior or I’ll just have carpet full of sand and sticker burrs. I may add a rear locker, but I doubt if it is really necessary. Although the first time I have to use my hi-lift jack to get unstuck, I’ll probably think one is necessary.

I’m sure I’ll have a lot of questions and maybe I can share some info in the future but for this weekend,  I guess I’ll just install a Performance Distributor ignition upgrade, make my 15 gallon fuel tank into a 20 gallon tank, and install an Optima battery.  ;)

I am Ridgeliner, and just picked up a 98 TJ 2.5.  I have a question about the Alternator,  the black module broke off the mount when changing the alternator, what is this, and how can it be fixed?

'95 YJ on it's second life.

Hello,
Owned my baby since 2/05, 27,xxx.  Fifth ride i've owned, only one i want.  In August, some clown side swiped me and nearly totaled her. :'(  Since then all sorts of things are popping up, which I'll ask about later.

'95 4-banger YJ.  Her name is Andromeda.  Basically stock.  I'm not a wheeler... yet.  Replaced the shocks (doetsch), installed a tuffy (didn't know the 8" model is too wide), replaced the softtop (sailcloth/tinted) , 235/16 BFG all terrain, 20 gallon tank conversion (removed that stupid tube), removable steering wheel (Grant - my favorite anti theft device).  I may never lift her up but discos would be great.  I also want a Rhino liner (nasty carpet - former owner must have really loved cats)

Coming soon will be a radiator (leaky) and exhaust (rattle-y and crumbly).  I'll be asking about the exhaust soon. ;)
Did i mention i want a rhino liner?

Thanks for your welcome.  This forum is great.  People always ask why i got the 2.5 instead of the 4.0.  I tell them because I'm better than they are.

I'm new to the forum, and relatively new to jeeps in general. never ridden in one, but always admired them and finally my parents got me a nice 91 YJ 2.5 for graduation/birthday in 07. been driving it since april, and i love that thing, wish i could have it here at college, but parking is too much in the city. haven't done too much to it. replaced the soft top with a new bestop soft, the rims and tires are what came with it, 15x10 american racing rims, super sport road tires, probably 27 or 28". new fender flares from rugged ridge. had to get the 7" wide flares because of state laws about exposed tread. haven't found anywhere in south eastern pennsylvania to off road, my jeep wont do long distance, and nothing to tow it with. new spark plug wires, 8mm, msd ignition, distributor cap, and high voltage coil.

I have a 1997 jeep wrangler and it has several mods. Bored out throttle body, a throttle body from gsp power spacers, catback, ngk plugs, accel wires, cold air intake, 2in budget boost for now with 31in bfg muds. I just moved back to california after 30 years in houston, Texas. I strive to continue to make my jeep faster, a lil bigger, and runnig tip top. Looking forward to good discusions. God Bless and Happy 4 Wheeling to everyone.

Just saying hi. Sooo...to the stats? Just got a 97 this past August, fairly stock, 31 BFG AT's, looking to upgrade gradually. This is my first Jeep, but I cut my teeth on my Dad's '74 and '85 's, respectively. That's his  '85 in the avatar, running up Kenosha Pass in CO this past May. Good times. Will change it when I get a good pic of mine. Look forward to meeting and spending time with you all.

I've been checking out your website for a few months now, just couldn't get my activation right! I'm Dan. I'm from Richmond, but am currently deployed with the 101st Ariborne to Camp Stryker, Iraq. I have a YJ at home that I've been upgrading for about the last year. I've owned and worked on many other jeeps before and this one was kind of my oddball jeep because I decided to keep the 2.5. I've never been a fan, but with my sm465 and 5.38s in my 9in/44 it'll produce a nice crawl ratio. Glad you guys are here...love the "home of four angry squirrels" thing! Check out my signature if you want to know more about my jeep. I'm also a member of kentuckykrawers.org, richmondjeepers.org, itsajeep.org and jeepsunlimited.

I just got a 1993 YJ about a week ago.  2.5L, 5sp, body and sus lift, 33x12.50s, stinger & lights up front. I will be building a reciever bumper to replace the little usless things out back.  The engine will get a few more mods as time and money allow.  The wife has an 1993 XJ Country 4.0L, auto, 2" lift. She gets new AT tires after the first of the year, her Jeep is a daily driver mine's not.  Can't wait to take it off-road this weekend hunting.
see ya in the woods,

Looks great...welcome aboard...how's the weather over there???

its actually not to bad this time of year. about 85 and breezy during the day and drops to about 50 at night. i'm a scout and we operate in SW Baghdad. in about 6 weeks the rainy season hits and what is already difficult wheeling in our 8ton humves, will become even more interesting! there are canals, narrow dirt roads and small bridges to negotiate. today my generally good driver, drove us off a 3 ft drop off backwards and into about 10 inches of mud! that big beast of a truck clawed its way out. (I must say my wheeling expertise did help..."Drop it in low lock, put it in reverse and punch it!")
