Hello from Woodstock, GA or 100 miles south of Tellico to put it in off road terms. My YJ is now on it's 2nd 4cyl so I guess this forum is for me. I am a member of Southern Jeeps which is a club based in North Georgia. Here's a link for anyone interested in what the club is like.

I drive a 94 YJ, SOA on 35" Maxxis Bighorns. I run 4.88 gears in the stock D30 and Ford 8.8 - locked F&R. My favorite little mod has been the RE hand throttle and I'm currently experimenting with a hydrogen boster.

Up front iam running a Dana 44,with  Warn premium hubs, 4340 chromoly axles, Yukon superjoints, Detroit locker with 5:38 gears. also have highsteer set up with hydro-asist steering. In the rear i have Ford 8.8 with spool. Going to high clearance fenders so i can run  38's. The motor is pretty well stock for now.  North East Ohio here! I bought my 97' TJ after returning from tour in IRAQ in 2005 (Told myself I'd get one at the end of my tour - I am now officially hooked on Jeeps - More fun than Hum-vee's). Love my Jeep my kids love nothing more than cruising around in it with the top off in the summer. Last year started going to a weekly truck night !! FUN PLACE !! Lots of trails and mud pits to navigate. I'm always looking for tips & tricks to make my rig better and take heed from the "been there - done that" postings !! Jeep currently has 31x10.50 , Mile Marker winch , swing away tire carrier. Im looking by spring to add some lift and maybe a bigger set of treads without killing my 2.5 !!      :beers:

Finally broke down and registered!  WAY back in 1960's, our family had a CJ.  Got my drivers license in it and burned up 3 engines and 2 transfer cases in it 4 wheeling all over western North Dakota.  Fiberglass hard top with sliding steel doors.  Beyond neat.  Pulled the family 16' boat with it, snow skied behind it, everything.  Kind of forgot about Jeeps.

Over the years, built a couple of Bucket T's, a chopped S10 2wd Blazer, couple of kit cars, a '98 Silverado short bed show truck, numerous hot rods - "normal" things.  Then I was browsing ebay and after 40 years ---

Bought a '93 YJ, 2.5, stick, soft top, 1/2 doors.  93K miles.  Previous owner painted it deep cranberry metalic (killer paint job), put on tubular side rails and bumpers, chrome rims and big tires.  Stock engine but with help of this site, will be doing injectors, spacer, TB, etc.

I guess one is never too old to go Jeepin'!  Still have a few years left in me.

Great site and I intend to make significant use of it.  Thanks.

"I guess one is never too old to go Jeepin'!  Still have a few years left in me." - labyerly.

You're absolutely correct, labyerly.

Hey, all...this is gonna be long 'cause I GOTTA vent - you'll see why in a moment.  ;)

I'll be 60 in a couple of weeks and have owned my '00 TJ since Labor Day weekend of '07.  Our son and his wife had come over for a golf tournament in their brand new '06 (leftover) Unlimited, all black, compass in the rearview mirror, I'm going..."I had no idea that a Jeep, jeep could be this cool."

As the four of us (our son, daughter-in-law, she-who-must-be-obeyed, and me) drove down to Tunica for the tournament, I realize that we're comfortable (literally 108 degrees that day) as our-son-the-genius has AIR in his ragtop Jeep. I didn't know they came with air. (This is probably gonna be long but, hey, indulge me - it's about Jeeps.) Here's a Jeep, jeep going down the freeway at the speed limit with four aboard plus golf sticks, airconditioner of all things and it ain't putting up a fuss. (The ones we had in the Navy would have FUSSED all the way, believe me.)

So, when the weekend's over, they're pulling out of the drive and, as usual, I come down with KILLER sinus problems - runny nose, watery eyes, the whole gig. Once they're out of sight I decide, "What could it possibly hurt to take a quick peek in eBay?"   Well...after two or three evenings of just checking eBay, I found my TJ at, of all places, a dealership I know back home in Nashville. (We're empty-nesters here in MEM with FedEx - transferred us over in '97 when the baby left home.)

So, I call my daughter and tell her that I've found a Jeep on Murfreesboro road and, will she go look at it with me Saturday morning as Mama and I are coming home for the weekend. She says 'yes.' Drove in Saturday morning to find a little four-banger, five-speed, SE with a straight body, needing juuuussssst a bit of detailing but showing out good, handed over the money (buy-now price) and followed her in my 'new' Jeep out to her home in Franklin. What fun that was. (She and I test drove it for and hour perhaps, with her behind the wheel the whole time. Talk about a fun father/daughter outing.) Naturally I snapped a few pics after the purchase as I followed behind in her Mama's Accord.

Since then, I've been bringing it back to like-new condition with carpets, freshly painted flares, grinding away frame rust followed up with etching primer, paint, and undercoat, new motor mounts, iginition parts, battery, radiator, water pump, hoses, belt, front sway bar links, poly suspension bushings/cushions, wax, wax, and more wax (good original paint), custom wintertime headliner to kockdown buffeting noise from the top, lighted rearview mirror, Sony head w/XM/iPod and new Infinity Kappa speakers, new inner and outer shifter boots, yada, yada, yada. I should tell you this as an intro to my complaint in the next paragraph - this is a sharp looking little silver Jeep, black accents, bright MT Classic IIs, 31" Goodrichs, you get the picture. (no air, by the way - go figure - MEMPHIS of all places - boy didn't get the genius part from me, methinks)

Now get this (and THIS is what really burns my bootay)...women think it's a TOY. A freaking TOY !!! It's not a toy, it's a ride to the office and back. It's a lousy, plain-jane, no frills vehicle, that just gets me to work and back, or any place I have business - and a few dirty places where I ain't got business. I have a toy (Corvette) and she-who-must-be-obeyed loves it. So let's compare the two: Jeep - no air, Vette - electonic climate control. Jeep - very noisy soft top, Vette - VERY quiet soft top. Jeep - had to buy a radio, Vette - Bose gold. Jeep - one courtesy light on the driver's side, Vette, OPERA lights everywhere. Jeep - ya gotta shift it YOURSELF, Vette - well yah but, that ain't relevant.

So what's the deal? (By the way, S-W-M-B-O loves riding in my Jeep, too so go figure.) I walk into the cleaners a couple of days ago and the woman behind the counter says, "So how's the toy?"  I go, "What toy?" Another woman in there just grins. I already know they've got me pegged as irresponsible and self-centered. A few months ago, a woman who knows about the Vette spys the Jeep and says to me, in front of my wife, "midlife, huh?" I wanted to simply reply with "Be-yotch" but since we were in church I figured I'd better keep my mouth shut or get ambushed in the Jeep on the way home.

So anyway, that's the whole sordid tale. Can I post now?  (jk) BTW, can you tell that I LOVE this little Jeep?

Found this forum while on JeepForum.com

I have a 91YJ that was given to me as my first vehicle and I love the thing so much. I've learned more about the inner workings of a vehicle in the past 8 months than in my whole life.

I hope to do a 4.0TB swap for some extra power and maybe the 19lb injector mod as well!

Hi my name is Scott

My brother owns a '94 YJ and come spring we are going to be rebuilding the engine, rebuilding the trans, fixing all the old things and doing some improvements and I am looking for some incite which is why I joined.

Read somewhere about this thread and saw that a couple of you guys have turbos and was planning on working up a turbo kit for my brother.  Now to start my search and posting to get some knowledge on the topic.

If anyone has any good direct sources on info please PM me.

Hi, I'm seventeen years old and just bought my first jeep. It's a '93 YJ, whte with a soft top and black 15's with 33x12.50. It looks lifted, but i don't know a lot about 4x4s, so i don't know what exactly is done to it. I'm hoping to get some ideas and advice, and hopefully some knowledge about what the hell all these parts do. I'll post up some pics and hopefully get some insight about my jeep.

ok, I am a michigander and I am now on my second YJ 2.5L.  My first YJ was a 93 five speed with only 68k on it when I bought it.  Sold the Jeep 9 months after I bought it and moved to Australia for a year.  Now I came back to this frozen tudra and bought a 92 YJ with only 76k miles.  Now my current jeep I have installed a pacesetter header, not cat, and a decent muffler.  No lift all stock but is the straightest driving jeep I have ever driven.  The tires are cheap little swamper knock offs and work great.  Getting stuck a lot but still don't want to mess with the handling of this fine machine.  Recently smacked up the front fender and will be replacing and repainting soon.  I still consider myself pretty new to all this jeep thing.  So advice is appreciated greatly.
