I guess when you have driven/ been with people that have re geared vehicles locked front and rear you dont ever consider going 2wd anymore.. Now that I decided to buy a Jeep I have high expectations, my buddy had a 2wd ranger with a loc right, 22 inches of suspension travel and 31's, cut fenders etc, I was unimpressed compared to even my stock Jeep on 31s with swaybar disconnected..
I also wouldnt want to be stuck somewhere wheeling with 2wd and having different gearing in the front as Steve will, lets say he breaks an axle shaft with that locker out messing around in 2wd, now hes totally stranded because he has no 4x4. I would say just hold on and wait until the gearing is the same front and back before wheeling so if somthing happens in that rear end you have a chance at getting out somewhat.
