spark plugs
« on: September 09, 2007, 03:28:00 PM »
ok so im finally going wheeling with my jeep next weekend for im doing a tune up and the new plugs i got have about and inch of thread and a washer at the end of the threads to go to a flat surface. and the old ones have about a half an inch of thread and are slightly tapered after then threads to go up to a tapered head surface. which plugs are the right ones. i don't really trust the old owner very much but the new spark plug having 2 times as much in the motor seems odd to me. ow adn the number on the plugs are. new rc12lyc and the old ones are rv17yc both are champion. thanks for any replies.

use the correct plugs. Start with looking up in a sparkplug chart or your jeep repair manual qhat your engine calls for. If you think the engine has been swapped or what not look at the sparkplug holes in the cyl head you can tell if it has a tapered seat and what the thread lenght of the hole is. You do not want to get a lot of carbon in the sparkplug hole, then the plugs will not seat correctly, get to hot causing detonation/ plug destruction and so forth.

i looked the part numbers up on championsparkplugs.com and looks like the new plugs that o'reilly gave me are the right ones and the old ones are for most Chevy or ford v8s or v6s. and id assume the makers of the plugs know what there doing. there was definitely no motor swap on my jeep yet...

ow i guess i didn't give my jeep specs. its a 1990 yj 2.5l stupid me :brick:

if the plugs are shorter than the new ones check to make sure your new plugs screw all the way in and the washer will contact the cylhead. also make sure the thread length in the head apears roughly the same length as yhe thread on your sparkplugs If the plugs will not seat you should try to clean the threads in the head

I get the impression that the hunting trip isn't your main goal Here :) Shooting a deer or drive all over to find one.

Good Luck on the wheeling/hunting trip.

well the grouse population is in the bottom of its cycle (coming up though) so we usually explore the old logging trail and see how much mud our jeeps can go through. so if we see one we will get out and hunt for it. or if we get to an area that we know is good. otherwise we are jeeping.
this jeep it has been fairly dry though. so the area where we usually have water higher than the floor boards on our cj3a were only half to three quarters of the way up my 31's so i didn't get much mud action.  but it had so much more power than the ol cj3a and even with the front track bar and swawbar and rear leafs hitting the frame it was a smoother ride. too bad the new jeeps are so darn wide. lots of the trails we go on are overgrown and you need the skinner cj's to get through unless you ant extensive body damage.

but all said and done my jeep impressed my dad and my brother. and my brother used to hate my jeep when it had the wrong plugs. so im happy with my 4banger for the time being :weee:

ya im just so excited i couldn't stop typing

ow adn the thread part of hunting for us is huge fires fueld with leftover wood from the loggers normal pieces are 6 foot long and 6 inched in diameter and the big ones are three feet in diameter and 10 to 12 feet long. all drug in with our jeeps of course. theres nothign like pulling a long bigger than your jeep with it

The Champion Performance Truck Plug is another good choice for Jeeps.
