mild build questions
« on: September 16, 2007, 03:16:42 AM »
Ok, I have a 95 with an automatic and it has about 110k on it. I'm thinkin about doing some work to the engine but I really can't pull the motor at the moment. I want to port match and polish runners, angle grind, deck the head (maybe to a 9.5 comp), cam, maybe slightly bigger valves, but no bottom end work.
I'm wondering if I can get a way with this.
I am also kinda confused on the cam. I want more bottom end on it, and one post said if you have an automatic, you want to go with the 240 grind. But the stock supposedly doesn't make power till about 2000rpm, the 240 grind starts at 900rpm, and the 248 grind starts at 1100rpm. Why can't I run the 248 grind if it makes power before the stock does?
And does anyone know the stock cam specs so I can compare it to the aftermarkets?

Most Auto trans need good vacuum signal to work right. if you go to (big) it won't shift right.

Oh, Ok, I get it now. Do you think that I could get away with doing the mild build with the 240 cam, and having the bottom end and trans hold up to it?

Unfortunately, I don't have it. So I will have to get an aftermarket.
Those specs don't make sense to me. What I'm really looking for is how much less overlap the 240 has compared to the stock. Cause the 248 has like 32 degrees and I believe the stock has 46?
I'm just really trying to get an idea of how much the cam will help me.

You need to speak with some pros that deal in cams, like here: www.hesco.us/forum

Or contact Clifford Performance.
