new plow sags, OME HD springs or air ride?
« on: October 23, 2007, 08:07:30 PM »
well, I got my new to me Western Suburbanite plow and even though it weighs a total of only 250#, the front is understandably sagging. what would be the best cure? the OME HD springs are good for an extra 180#(not sure if that's enough). the one thing I dont like is they say it will give you 1.5" to 2.5" of lift out of them. well I have a 2.25 RE BB and if it gives me 1.5" it would be too low compared to the back and with the RE coil spacer it would be too high. I dont want it to sit higher in the front when the plow is off. The air ride or air bag that goes inside of the spring is $77.00 shipped, compared to around $150 for the OME. Will the air bag work with the BB? not sure if it would be long enough or do they go off the bump stop? because mine has been extened when i did the BB. the bags I'm looking at are for vehicle specific. I would like to have both but after dropping $2400 for the plow I better just get one for now.
wow I hope someone understands what I'm trying to say.

also, in the future I would  like to get a winch. good thing I have a 4 banger, saves me a little weight over the 6!

Is it sagging without the blade attached?

just with the blade on. it lifts the back up around 2" and sags the front around 2" so it look really bad and I think my tires will rub up front if left alone.

Using a combo of springs and spacers, it'll be difficult to get correct ride heights with and without the plow.  I'd recommend airbags so you can have the best of both worlds.

My old plow truck did the same, I just lived with it while the blade was on. What year is your rig? May be time for new coils. If it's a 97ish with OEMs the spring rate may not be what it once was.

If you insist on doing something other than that, airbags are your answer. May need to get creative with the spacers but I don't know. I've never had one o' dem thar fancy shpansy coil srung Jeeps.
