serpentine belt switcheroo?
« on: April 13, 2008, 11:07:37 PM »
well I have an air conditioned tj and of course the ac doesn't work.  I was wondering if I could take off the air conditioner unit and switch the serpentine belt out for one without air conditioning.  I remembered seeing some diagrams in one of the service manuals and they looked basically the same except one had the AC unit, and the other did not.  I can't find that diagram anymore because the links for the 98tj factory service manuals no longer work

anywho just a thought to get rid of some weight and a negligible amount of friction.

You can always keep the belt as it is, and find a York compressor in a Junk Yard, for OB Air...  I mean, since you have accepted the fat that you will not have AC, why not use the space your current compressor is taking up...

The AC compresor itself can be used for on-board air, that is if the compresor still works in your case (or get another used one).

I assumed the compressor was the reason for the AC not working...  If it is not, you can use the same one.
