Jeep fuse box questions
« on: January 06, 2009, 12:14:46 AM »
Hey guys. In Lieu of my jeep being broken into, I remembered that there is fuse that I can pull out of the box under the hood somewhere that will prevent the Jeep from being started. I know its been discussed before but I am not in the mindset to search for it.

Can anyone help me.

You can pull the ASD relay.  Should be under the hood in the relay box.  Inside of the box lid will be labeled.

However since the ASD relay is the same as some of the others in the box, all they would need to do is swap in the headlight relay to start it.

An easier solution is to just wire a hidden switch that interupts the NSS signal.

Thanks brother....

I am not worried about a mechanically inclined thief. I think its just neighborhood teens screwing around.. Im gunna do that at night now, and maybe invest in a locking hood latch set.

If they are not mechanically inclined then they are not going to get it started without a key.

Line all of your seals with razor blades, attach push thumb tacks to strips of velcro, then line the inside lips of anything vulnerable with the other side of that velcro.

Also do a hidden switch, as even more security.

Oh, hire an insomniac (like me) to sit outside with a shotgun!

if you really want to mess with them you could could have a hidden switch that totally disconnects the ground so it can't be jump started... but this really only works of vehicles without batteries like snowmobiles. :guns:

lots of vehicles run ground stop switches,  like almost any racing vehicle usually has one so power can be killed quickly for safety,  i have one but have never actually hooked it up,  you just have to interupt the main battery ground

Haha whats your rate to travel to Colorado Springs?

That is actually a good idea with the thumb tacks. I think I might actually do with that my door handles at night. I already pull my ASD

Can't give you a quote until the jeep is running again! Ha, jokes aside I've stopped quite a few theiveries around my neighborhood, some kids even tried to steal boxer pups from our neighbors' yard. Run outside hollering like a banshee with the biggest kitchen knife I could find and no one is gonna stick around for long!

Oh, watch the filler tubes for your gas tank too, randomly adhere fiberglass resin to the area near them and your siphoners will be unhappy...

Not to hijack but while we are talking about this are there any other fuses under the hood besides the fuel system relay that would keep my pump from kicking on, otherwise i think my pump just died

Ballast resistor? Just jumper it! I haven't ever worked with one so I can't tell you anything about it, but I know if it goes your pump will quit.

I messed with it a lil bit last night, It's been about 15 degrees here lately and working outside in the street isnt much fun.  It just clicked in my head last night that when I turned the key to On that I wasnt hearing the fuel pump building up pressure and I pressed the release valve on the fuel rail and didn't get anything out of there.  Im going to replace the fuel filter when I get home, maybe I got water in it when I went to Redbird last month
