Sleeping in the Jeep.
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:29:46 AM »
I like the outdoors and winter camping is cold inside a tent.  I was thinking sleeping inside a TJ would be a better alternative to setting up a tent and such.

http://www.d-90.com/

In this site go to custom mods on top, then sleep and store 2.  I think I know have a weekend project.

Have any of you used the inside of youre Jeep to sleep in while enjoying the outdoors.

I slept in mine in Wyoming in a rest area when it was 5º outside.  Rear seat was removed and my legs had to stay over the center console.  I guess it was okay in a pinch but I wouldn't be able to do it for very many nights.

It seems my camping gear has doubled due to the extra sleeping gear.  I was thinking If I could somehow fabricate something to go over the back seats and the front seats then two people could sleep comfortably.

check it out!

Some people are trying to figure out how to use it with their wranglers.

Or you could just buy an XJ and your troubles will be gone...

Here's a story of mine from this summer.

After a party I went to, let's just say I was in no condition to drive. So rather than stay in the house, which was full of weed, which I don't allow myself to be around, or drive home while under the influence, I decided to stay in the driveway in my Jeep.

I locked my doors, reclined the seat, and fell asleep.

Moral of the story:

Why do you need to make a bed, when you've got comfy reclining seats?

Unless sleeping is second to something else? :stick: :pot:

just  word of advise if you sleep in your vehicle when intoxicated and the keys are in the vehicle you can get a dui... something about having position of the keys and ability to drive ti.. sounds dumb but something to keep in mind if there are cops around. (heard this about this happening to a few people).  but to be more on topic reclining the seats is a good solution but if you can think of / make something better that would be great.

I was thinking that for 5 day roadtrips, not just a night thing.  I got these pictures that describe how someone put a piece of plywood in a Defender 90.  Cramp, tight, but functional.

That would work, fenders would make a good base if you could get front pass. seat as low as the center console and fenders.

Yes, you can get a dui if you're in/near the vehicle with the keys, considered being in physical control.  If you're gonna sleep it off, chuck the keys.

I upgraded trucks this fall and got an 06 2500 Silverado Crewcab and the back seats in it fold down flat and turn in to a nice lil bed.  Its worked out pretty nice for overnight Jeep trips, but that may only work out for me, cause my Jeep only goes where the truck takes it to

do the new chevys have seats that recline down nicely? the ones in our 02 go down just to the point where it could start getting comfortable and then stop.... making it a pain to try to sleep in the front seats. I like the plywood flat bed idea... just figuring out how to support it could be fun

i saw a rooftop tent conversion for defender 90s a while back. apparently pretty popular in africa-it pretty much consisted of a solid base mounted on a roof rack that folded back from the front of the vehicle and ran a few feet longer than the vehicle itself. the rear portion was held up by poles and the tent was basically unfolded and mounted on top of the d-90. it doesnt seem that hard to rig something similar. figure u would need a decent roof rack without the full cage, a strong board and a way to secure the tent.

My '06 is like yours, I will have to look at my dad's new company truck is the NBS, and see how far they recline back.  Thats what I like about the Crewcab more then the extended cab I had is I can lay the back seats flat and i got a nice lil 4' across area to sleep

It isn't however, illegal to sleep in the passengers seat. I learned that in my Law class this semester. Just don't advicate that you have your keys... Put them in the glovebox or even better, in a spare jacket in the back seat!

Your steps after the custom mods on top link do not make any sense.  Tell me again how to get to what your looking at.
