Interesting idea, the FSM wiring diagram does show Cyl 5 and Cyl 6 on the 4 cyl computer.

Gotta wonder how close it is software wise...

Hmm

Dave

it's is most likely not the same, there are less teeth on the flywheel so that's one difference. the injector sizes are also different so that would make for different fuel maps. there are also other differences so unless it has something built in to identify that is a 6 cyl harness and switch to that mode i don't think you can do it but you never know. it could be identical hardware though flashed with different firmware.

where did you find the cyl 5 and 6 on the 4 cyl diagram? - there are 2 different wire harnesses and the FSM shows  different 60way connectors for 4 and 6 cyl models

check the 95YJ_8W.pdf document form FSM - on page 154 (or 8w-80-14 as printed on the page) is the 2.5L PCM connector which only has 4 injectors (pin 13 to 16) whereas on the 4.0L on the next page you have cyl 5 on pin 38 and cyl 6 on pin 58 in addition to the other 4. would be interesting to look at the P/Ns for the 2 computers and that would probably answer the question (if they're the same then they would obviously be interchangeable)
